The output from our strip-cut shredder is used for rabbit bedding, then on to the composter. No security problems there! Bunny is happy with warm bedding, and we're happy with reduced costs. Cross-cut shreddings would be less sucessfull I feel, although great for confetti?
    Wearing my other one today.

Stationery Box - a high street retailer - has the following on sale

    Strip shredder - £11.99

    Cross cut shredder - £16.99

Desk top mini shredder - £7.49

    regards

  • Saw a manual A4 shredder in Publishers Outlet (in Harlow's Harvey Centre) for £3.99
    Waddle you do eh?
  • Do you really have to go for a crosscut shredder? ???
Doesn't the "deterrant" factor work in a similar way to burglar alarms on houses?
ie - someone wanting to burgle a house will go the the "easier option" of one without a burglar alarm - wouldn't the same apply in this case?
i.e if a document is shredded (by whatever means, in whatever fashion) then move on to one that isn't?

just a thought! Not that I have a criminal mind though! ;)
    Any opinions on this?
  • Don't flush receipts down the toilet or in put them in the waste disposal unit! Not environmentally friendy?

When buying a shredder why not think what it might cost you if you have your identity ripped off by criminals? £00000's?
Surely better to spend slightly more on a cross (confetti) cut shredder? This will make even the most determined crook look else where!
A cheap strip cut shredder typically cuts the paper length ways into 6mm strips, a spreadsheet or statement can easily be reassembled from this type of shredder!

I bought a Rexel brand shredder from my local stationer, a V25 confetti cut for £37.99 RRP. £93.95!!!! Plus it has a TWO year warranty!!!!!
I always try local shops first, then the big boys, often my local shops win hands down!
  • my question was kind of "retrospective" as I've been using just a bog-standard shredder (the £12.97 one from asda) for about 6 months!!!
    DOH!
So what you're saying is, if you've got a straight cutter - bin it and get a crosscutter?

For what its worth, I wish I had a cross-cut shredder instead of my strip-cut, for the simple reason that the strips take up so much bloomin space!

Unless you have a Guinea Pig or something that could use extra bedding, I would much prefer the lesser volume.....

Maybe not a valid reason, but I do find wrestling with all those strips of paper a pain!

All of this might just be an elaborate simulation running inside a little device, sitting on someone's table.
  • I put the shreds in a paper recycle bin.
If a thief is going to climb in there and re assemble my bank statement after finding the right bits he deserve's to have the pleasure of reading it.
If you have a chimnea or an open fire this is a spanking idea, a log maker.
You soak the paper in water, squeeze into one of these log makers and dry it out, they burn for an hour I think.
    https://www.tiscali.co.uk they are £19.95
    Waddle you do eh?

I bought a strip shredder today from Maplin. New store opened near me and they were on special for £12.99 instead of £29.99. It's very sturdy and much better than the ones I have looked at in Staples & Safeway :). Husband just says "What d'ya want one of those things for ???. Waste of money" ??? >:( ??? >:(. Evil husband >:( :P.
