Oh, and having just checked the WHSmith site I spotted this:

which appears to be identical to my £10 Sainsburys one (except mine's black rather than red).

Further Update: Just saw these in a much larger Sainsburys than the one where I paid £10, and they were asking £39.95!

Just a thought but you can find a fair few to choose from online. Try searching for "office supply prices" or similar - there's some price comparison sites out there that list loads from just a few quid. Rymans seem to have a cheapo own brand range from £4-99 and I've seen them for less. Not sure whether to get a hand winder? Anyone tried them?

There is a price comparison site specifically for shredders at compareshredders.co.uk. It also has an offers section with a lot of shredders that are on sale or discounted.

@theainz: The site also has a manual/hand winding shredders section. The ones on the site are the cheap ones sold by Rymans, but I think they are only really good for shredding small items, like receipts...
