Ban Kids On Flights

Travel Mole Topic sent to me today.

Ever got on a flight only to find you’ve been seated next to a tearful toddler and family?

That sinking feeling most of us get when spotting a miniature travelling companion in our row has just been quantified by a new report that reveals a massive 83% of passengers would like to see adult-only areas on flights.

Airport hotel and parking website HolidayExtras.com polled just less than 5000 of its customers to find out what air passengers really want and a flight sans enfants came out tops.

What’s more, just under a third went further and said they would like to ban children on flights completely. A slightly more tolerant 51% said there should be cabins set aside for adults only.

A little more predictably, more than 75% of those polled said they needed more leg room and felt that feeling uncomfortable was the worst aspect of flying.

A rather delicate 9% of respondents said what they really couldn’t stand was having to sit next to a smelly person. Poor loves.

Head of product innovation and merchandising at HolidayExtras.com Anthony Clarke-Cowell said: “I’m surprised so many travellers have expressed such a strong desire for adult-only flights.

“Flights abroad always present a challenge for families and this is reflected in the results. There is clearly a need for more facilities to keep children happily engaged in quieter pastimes both during and before a flight.”

I don't see why they can't wrap kids up warm and pop them in the hold :D

Why anyone would want to take kids on holiday in the first place is beyond me ;)

Maybe Ive been lucky but I have never had a problem with children (I assume they mean youngish children) on a flight.

What a load of bo11ox the kids are not the problem it is the selfish parents who let them do what they want.
My daughter went to Austria at 8 months,Majorca at 16 months,Orlando at 20 months and new York at 2.5 years not a problem on the plane as we control her and teach her right from wrong, aswell as having plenty of games, magazines, drinks and snacks to keep her occupied. We also make sure she has expelled energy prior to boarding aircraft (virgin v-room excellent for this)

    totally agree

you can tell the parents who are trying to entertain their kids and keep them quiet and the ones who couldn't care less, i took my little boy last year for the first time and made every effort to occupy him, ok he did have a few moments where he was a bit whingy but on the whole was good.

i don't think there is anything wrong with offering adult only sections as an optional extra

Adult only cabins should certainly be offered as a matter of course.

I know most parents are great and entertain / occupy their kids, but there are many who couldn't care less, and surely trying to keep a screaming baby quiet is impossible even with the best will in the world?

I'm child-free (by choice) and just can't cope with the thought of being subjected (again!) to other peoples' kids for however many hours.

I agree! I took my 17 month old to visit my parents last week (1 hour flight) and he got very distressed on the descent. Because of his age he had to sit on my knee and he screamed and thrashed around for 10 minutes and refused to take a drink or suck anything which would release pressure in his ears. The man sitting in the seat in front of me was charming about the whole situation but it must have been miserable for him!

I've been sat near perfectly behaved children, and I have also been sat near children who have been allowed to run wild.

I agree that sections that would cater for adults only would be good, however, why should it be an optional extra? Maybe those with children are the ones that should be paying extra?

As someone who gets about a bit during the course of the year, before I voted to ban kids I'd ban the following.

    1. Dustbin swallowers with a BMI in excess of 30.
    2. People with halitosis.
    3. People with general issues with regards to personal hygeine.
    4. Boring people.
    5. People who cannot partake of the free gratis drinks trolley without making an rrrse of it.
    6. Heavy smokers who give off that unmistakable scent of a crack wh0res sofa.
    7. People who don't realise that the armrest between me and them is MINE.
    8. Erm ............ ;)

My children always behaved themselves on planes. So I don't see why we should be shoved in with badly behaved children as some sort of punishment for existing, quite frankly. What's so special about the childless that they shouldn't have to take their turn sitting next to the brats?
