MSE News: Barclaycard to buy 1.15 million Egg customers

Beware of this take over if you are a credit card tart, I used to transfer balances over between 3 cards to save on interest.
1 was Barclaycard who then took over my other 2, meaning I was left with 3 Barclaycards with no way of transferring a balance.
They wouldn't even let me put all 3 balances on 1 card.0 -
I will personally be sorry to see Egg Money go, as much for Money Manager as the 1%. Not sure if I will stay, see what's on offer. Does anyone know of an equivalent money Manager?0

First Direct have a money manager equivalent.
I'm gutted about this, I've been with Egg for years and I've always had great customer service from them.
I fear for the Cashback and amazing serviceNot buying unnecessary toiletries 2024 26/53 UU, 25 IN0 -
I have found EGG service staff to be extremely helpful and their security system first class. The 1% cashback is always a pleasant surprise since I usually forget about it until it is paid. The money manager is also useful. I was one of Barclaycard's original cardholders 45 years ago when it was the first credit card in the UK.
I will decide who is my credit card issuer, not EGG or Barclaycard.
Therefore will cancel my Egg card before Barclaycard takes over and will revive my seldom used Co-op card which guarantees no fee ever.0 -
I've just registered for the First Direct money manager and found it to be as good if not better (groups accounts according to type) - no need for a FD account either (I don't have one). I'm going to use this one from now on. All I'll miss now is the 1% cashback for Egg Money; the nice green card had been replaced by a black one!
To echo other posters, my experience with Barclaycard has been poor.0 -
£200 cashback to hit my account this month
Cashback stops......Im outta here.
I went for the Capital one cash back card...low credit limits min £4k max £7k. £18 annual charge with a £10 annual loyalty refund.
1% unlimited cash back....As I am using mine purchasing for business use I am clocking up around £600 cashback a month .....paid in January by the way.0 -
Anyone know when they will start merging the Egg Money accounts into Barclaycard?
We have a Barclaycard but stopped using it last year when they took our cashback to 0.00 (we spend over £1000 a month on it). Trying to reason with the indian call centre and get the cashback back was enough for us to stop using it and switch to using Egg Money instead.
Have been very happy with Egg and now hear the news they are being taken over from Barclaycard. Not at all happy0 -

Just open an egg savings account and leave £1 in it.
then you will still have access to Money Manager.0 -

..... Other Egg customers with savings, insurance, loan and mortgages products are unaffected.
There's no reason why Egg Money Manager will disappear. I don't beleive it's exclusive to the crdeit card.
Egg Money Manager- Exclusively available to Egg customers - all you need is an Egg account or Egg credit card.
You'll just need another Egg product such as a saving account.
EDIT: Poster above beat me to it!! GMTA !! :-)If the ball had gone in the net it would have been a goal.If my Auntie had been a man she'd have been my Uncle.0 -
Oh well, that's the reasonable customer service, cashback and other bits and pieces down the tubes. Barclays, in my experience, is one of the worst providers in terms of service delivery - appalling service, half an hour or more waiting for someone to help when you call them, messages not responded to, etc, etc.
Think I'll go with first direct - no perks though - and I'll be at least half guaranteed of a decent service, and continued text updates.
Shame egg card/money got binned though. The prospect of a Barclaycard was just too much to bear.0
