I'm having a nightmare contacting HMRC, I got a letter in November stating I owed £3000 in underpaid tax dating back 2 years, I phoned to dispute it and got told I had to write in to dispute it, I have written to the Bradford office 4 times but never get a reply, I have tried phoning them but no one ever answers, anyone know who I need to contact, I need to get this sorted before they start taking £300 a month from my wages in April, thanks0

have HMRC said they will deduct the money from next years tax code?, as you owe over 2000, they are unable to deduct this amount through your code, so they will have sent you, or will be sending you a payment slip,
you say you phoned in to dispute it, what were you disputing, was it the figures on the P800 or the fact that the employer should have deducted the correct amount of tax.
If different figures on the p800 then you would need to provide evidence to the contrary. eg p60's / p45's / p11d's showing different amount to the calculations. If it was employer error then what evidence did you provide.
Why have you written in 4 times ? have you provided different evidence each time or are you just progress chasing. He's not an accountant - he's a charlatan0 -
Which office is shown on the P800s .... and which telephone number are you ringing? If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0

also, have you been given a reason for the underpayment? Are you appealing on the basis that HMRC have not acted correctly.
Again the post is too vague, we need more information.[SIZE=-1]To equate judgement and wisdom with occupation is at best . . . insulting.

looking at he posters history, member since 2008, no posts regarding this in the past, less than 10 posts in total, I would say TROLL ALERT

I've had a P800 saying I underpaid tax in the tax year 2007-2008. This is for about £1300.
They say i must repay this over PAYE from April 2011/2012
How do I verify this as I got nowhere over the telephone.
The P800 said I had two jobs (which I did not)
I am also unsure as to whether I have any paperwork from 2007 (thats reasonable too from what I have read)
Can anyone help me on a course of action here?

Post the P800 figures and someone will have a look at them. But - to make any sense of them - then it also needs your P60 (or P45 if you switched jobs) figures (pay / tax / Code Number) for the same year,
If that's the paperwork you suggest you don't have? Then it's not 'reasonable' as they're important documents you need to keep. And any help we can give will be limited as a consequence. If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0 -

Just don't get online much sorry if I'm a TROLL, (whatever that is)
Reason I'm disputing it is 1. they have not took into account the tax I paid in my first job and 2. I had never had a 2nd job before so did not know how I was taxed and assumed it was correct, I have sent the same letter 4 times and got no reply and phoned and sent letters to the address on the P800 which is an office in Bradford, I'll post figures and the address when I get home, I was asking if anyone has another address I can write to.

Hi, I was wondering if someone could help. I have received a PAYE coding notice letter this morning in the post. The letter states that my tax code for 2011/12 is 307L and then a note of how it is worked out, which states:
Personal Allowance: £7475
Underpayment Restriction: £4397
Tax free amount of: £3078 = (code 307L)
There is a note at the bottom which then states that I owe £879 from a previous year, which I may remember them telling me about..
I was out of work for 6 months in 2008, so I sent a letter to HMRC in March 2009 asking for a refund of my tax as I was under the threshhold for the year given that I only worked for 6 months.
I received a letter back in April 09 which stated I wasn't entitled to a refund as they had looked into my tax affairs for the previous years and discovered that I underpaid in 06/07 and 07/08 (i had 2 jobs in each of these tax years but filled out the correct forms when starting the 2nd job stating that it was my 2nd income). The tax rebate I was applying for was applied to reduce the overall amount I underpaid and I was told that the outstanding amount of £879 would be collected through my tax code for year ending 5th April 2011.
I therefore had presumed that they had adjusted my tax code accordingly and it would be repaid this tax year. I have a mortgage to pay and really cannot afford for my income to go down, I was wondering if there was anything I could do about this?
I have been looking for information and came accross the ESC A19 but don't know if it would apply in my case? I also came accross information that stated there were rules preventing HMRC from chasing money which should have been paid more than 4 years ago.. (would this cancel out 06/07?)
Any help would be greatly appreciated0
