P800 and ESC A19

I think I need to move off my staff rate,
Before you jump too quickly - bear in mind you're only paying tax (20% .... or 40%?) on that benefit! So 2626 @ 20% 'only' equates to £525 in tax. Which is considerably better than paying the £2626 in Mtge interest if you were on an average rate?
So make sure you work the arithmetic before you consider changing? If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0 -
Ive been told i "owe" £2057!!, but ive been retired since July 07, and my pensions have remained the same since then, so it must be their fault., I phoned them (dont use 0845 by the way (say no to 0845), any way I of course quoted A19, but, surprise, surprise thay say it dosent apply to me as one of my pension providers had not informed them correctly (the defecit is for the last 2 years). They are prepared to allow the payments over 3 years with no interest. I just wondered if I should accept this or hold out and claim A19 by post? any ideas Thanks.0

There's nothing to stop you paying the instalments and continuing with your claim for ESC A19 alongside. Just don't forget that HMRC seem to be automatically rejecting A19 claims at first attempt - often remarkably quickly which suggests that they havn't looked into it properly. If you get a rejection, then just write back to make an appeal against their rejection - head up your letter "APPEAL" and mark it for the attention of the customer services manager. No point in trying to claim A19 by phone - the call centre workers don't have the authority to invoke it anyway.0 -
In January I had a demand for £1700 total for 2008/09 & 2009/10, I used martins draft letter and wrote back immediately quoting ESC 19. My circumstances had not changed in 15 years, during which time I never filled in a tax return. No problems until now.
JOY today I received a letter from HMRC saying that after review I did not owe any money!! THANKS MARTIN.

Ok so my income in that period was 43764 and my benefits quoted on my P1111D for that year were Ben loan 1972 + 652 = 2634 plus Med Ben 209 ... also listed on my P11d is a dental plan I pay for thro a flexible benefits scheme.
The tax code issued was 559L from 6475PA - 628 for the loan/-177 for the medical ins and -75 total deduction 880 = 5590... so I have understood this is incorrect and should have been a higher deduction.0 -

Yes - it should have been higher. I'm assuming those P11D figures are for 09-10. Have you checked back to the 08-09 P11D as they tend to start off a year in arrear - and then continue that way.If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0 -
I had 2 codes in the year 2008/09 issued Jan 2008 showed 1065 for the ben loan and then reduced to 628 in Aug 2008. They were collecting 131 of a tax shortfall in this year but I think this was as I am close to 40% so i felt about right. Think this was the last year i did any return..0
