    Hi all

Spent yesterday sorting out arrangements and visits to the solicitors, banks etc... with Mum.

Flowers and music choices to go and Dad's send off will be sorted.

Trying to keep strong, but I can be very shaky at times and last night was an example of this.

Still haven't sorted out money or anything, but must do this today as DHs bank account has been sadly lacking (although he gets paid today, so shouldn't be too bad now). Must remember to take my card reader to work today.

Got our AGM (yet again) tonight, fingers crossed enough people turn up this time - also employed a new gardener/driver who starts next week - the jobs are piling in and we have had to put some on hold - but hoping for a busy few weeks to bring us back up to speed.

Work has been up and down, lost some business this week which will really leave a hole when it phases out towards the end of the year - so we all got a telling off and told how to do our jobs! It was factors way beyond our control that lost us the business! Anyway, we have a management meeting today which I am dreading, as if the boss comes in, we will get yet another roasting.

Hoping to catch up with the diaries after the funeral, I am really behind and I am sure that I will need to set an afternoon aside to catch up with Tilly's. lol.

    Hope everyone is doing ok.

Thanks GG. Today has been a better day - although we haven't got to the end of it yet. I am sure there will be lots of ups and downs for quite some time to come.

    AGM was fine.

Money shuffle finally done £423 added to the deposit fund. Haven't done all the calculations, so there might be some more to go in - but waiting for everything to settle down a bit.

    DH has had his £300.

It has been heavy lately on the going out for something to eat front - but I am not going to worry about it.

Buffet shopping tonight for the wake on Wednesday.

DH wants to have something with chicken for tea, but I haven't got anthing out of the freezer, so I will have to buy some.

Haircut tomorrow - also taking mum along to have her hair done too as its been a long time.

Florist tomorrow for the flower order and have researched the music - just got to check with mum, then I can buy the tracks in mp3s and burn to a disc.

    Off to update signature.

Funeral done, people waved off (except one that's leaving today) and hardly any leftovers from the buffet!

Yesterday was hard, but I have been completely overwhelmed by the support we have all received. There were 47 people there (I think) - such a good turn out - just a shame he missed the party - he would have enjoyed being the centre of attention!

I have the day off work today and after we have seen the last friend off at the station today, DH and I are going out for a very leisurely lunch to just chill - this will be last time for a while as the eating out has got a bit out of hand lately, but with everything that has been going on - its been a welcome relief not to cook and do the washing up! At least having friends come here meant that the house is spick and span for now too.

DHs dad is still in hospital and they are trying to sort a care package out so he can home next week - its really dragging on now and all we really want is to get him home.

So, next week I will try to get my life back on track: Still paperwork to do ala Dad, but now its more of a matter that it has to be done to make Mum's life easier in the future. Got a fundraiser to organise and market and need to get back to meal planning and saving money.

I am cheating a bit on Saturday as Mum has insisted we go out for a family meal at lunchtime - I hope she's paying lol! No seriously, it will be nice - mum has been a recluse in the last few years due to dad's ill health - its her time now to share in more family life and my brother and I will build some new memories for our family.

Thanks for all your support over the last few weeks, you have all been great. Time will heal, and the good memories are starting to show through - its now back to business as usual!

  • Morning, it's always such a difficult time to live through and I understand exactly what you mean about the funeral - my Dad would have loved his and it is this type of thing which helped me. I swore at my Dad often, once he had passed away. He certainly left the paperwork in a pickle and my Mum and I literally cried with laughter at times.

How did your Mum get on at the hairdressers? My Mum had been my Dad's main carer for 3 years and when she left the house to have her hair done, she said it made her feel young again - bear in mind she was 86 at the time :rotfl:

My very best wishes to you and it's great to hear you talking of building new memories - I'm sure your Mum will enjoy her time with you all and whilst the sadness still remains, it softens.

    Hi MCI.

Glad the funeral went as well as they can. Things will seem strange for a while for you all but time is the best healer.

    Hi Tilly

Mum got on great at the hairdressers, she was grinning from ear to ear at her new hair do! She couldn't keep looking in the mirror when she got home - I think it did her a power of good - like your mum she hadn't had her hair done at the hairdressers in a lot of years!

I have been told today that I should take some time for myself - go somewhere to think and reflect.

The good things to come out of this are: a) I am re-connecting with Mum and b) I am back in touch with people I haven't seen for years! One of then over 20 years!

I am still sad and a bit numb, but as you say it will soften.

    Thanks again.
