  • Casserole was really nice - got a 2 person portion to go back in the freezer!! So much for trying to empty it!

    Chicken Stir Fry Tonight.

Dad's appointment went ok yesterday, he was in quite a good mood for a change. He's going for his eye op on the 13th March - just got to wait to hear back about his MRSA test - but I'm sure it will be fine.

No additional spends on grocery, so off to have a look at my account to decide how much my OP will be. Still got to be careful as don't want to incur any charges before the fixed rate ends. Can't wait til it does though, then can OP without worry.

  • It was so tempting to go out for something to eat last night, but resisted the temptation...don't know how successful I will be tonight:D Still, we have got the money from the gas refund to pay for it.

Going to do the big shop later - well, half of it at least and see if can wangle the vouchers for £5 off next week and 10p off litre of fuel. Herr A will be tomorrow as my friends want to go too and I'm the one with the car.

Paid the dividend in at lunchtime.:T
I am really glad its the end of the week, its been manic at work, home and with the charity stuff, but I won't really get a rest till Sunday...and then its time to go back to work again.

DH has got to have a 24 hour blood pressure monitor on Monday to see if they can pinpoint whats going on there. Been doing my best to reduce the amount of salt in his diet, but its so difficult when you eat bread!

Anyhoo, hope everyone has a good weekend, if I've got chance I'll pop on over the weekend, but I generally don't get my laptop out as I sit infront of a screen all week!

    Have a good one.

  • Another week goes by...

Still no freezer inventory done, but I think I have managed to figure out a meal plan (or list of meals) for the rest of the month that doesn't involve buying anymore meat or fish (apart from some nice sausages!) - so will see how it goes. Didn't have to account for 3 meals as going out with my cousins on Friday for a curry and we have mine and DHs birthdays in March and we will be going out for something to eat on those nights.

DH has had the 24hr blood pressure monitor put on this morning - he says his arm is hurting already! I've told him he's got to keep it on as we really need to get to the bottom of whats going on with his blood pressure (both his ECGs came back clear).

Turkey, Mushroom and Broccolli Stroganoff with rice for tea tonight - its one of his favourite meals so I hope it will cheer him up.

Hope everyone had a good weekend.

Forgot to say yesterday that Grocery Spends so far this month are approx £88 (can't remember the exact figure at the moment).

Got to pop and get some fruit later as the necatarines I bought on Friday have not ripened yet and some coriander and limes for tonights tea.

DH has taken his BP monitor back to the hospital this morning. He has his consultants appointment on Friday.

Planning to go down the town on Thursday to make my OP as my regular mortgage payment will have gone out then.

Dad gave me £10 for taking him to the hospital last week (can't stop him - he says its for my petrol - I told him its over the top!). Anyway, going to split it and add another £5 to the OP. So should be £190.

Cajun Salmon, Tomato and Avocado Salad & Rice for tea tonight. ( A low salt recipe from the good food mag).

    That salad sounds delicious :)

I've just spent half an hour working my way through your diary - you seem to be going great guns! I like the mix of enjoying yourself, but being sensible and frugal where possible.
  • Thanks for taking the time to read my diary Edinburgher...I'm doing my best to keep a sensible life balance. Mum and Dad never had any money when we were growing up and due to various influences (good ones from my grand parents and bad ones from my parents) I decided that its best not to deprive yourself, but at the same time not go over the top.

The salad was very nice and really easy. Halved cherry toms, diced ripe avocado, couple of sliced sping onions, juice of a lime, splash of olive oil and chopped coriander - delish...went really well with the fish.

Grocery spends stand at £96.57/£200 at the moment and as I don't think we will need to buy any meat or fish this month, its going to be easy to come in under the £200 mark. Gradually getting down the contents of the freezer, but think its going to take most of the month before I can defrost properly.

Roast dinner with all the trimmings tonight using LO sliced Three Bird Roast that I had frozen. Veg man comes today so lots of fresh veggies, roast potatoes and lashings of gravy (and redcurrent jelly hiding in the fridge).

Looking forward to a nice night in, haven't got home before 7pm this week as I've had to do things after work before going home - going straight home today:T.

Today marks the anniversary of starting this diary. I can't believe how quick it has gone and how much I've managed to pay off!

I celebrated today with another OP of £190.

    The figures now are:

    Outstanding Mortgage: £15,419
    Daily Interest Rate: £2.83
Mortgage Free Date: Jan 2020 (Aged 47)

I have paid £3410 off the mortgage (including normal payments) and to be quite honest I am quite proud of what I have achieved - considering my first OP target was just £750.

Still quite stressful at work and we have our Management Review tomorrow morning, which I need to get prepared for (half done).

Going for a curry with my cousins tomorrow evening. It was planned for before Christmas, but we are all so busy it just got dragged out. Be a mini pre-birthday celebration too for me...

Got to pop to Herr A on the way home, but the shopping list is minimal and then I have a charity meeting later - hope that doesn't stress me out too much!

HM Spag Bol from the freezer for tonights tea - nice and easy as I don't get back from the meeting till about 9.30pm.

DH has his consultants appointment in the morning, so we will see what the results of the BP monitor are.

    Off to update signature...

DH has just called me and his trip to the hospital was a complete waste of time - they hadn't even got his results back yet, so couldn't really tell him anything.

He had his BP taken and it was high this time, but after his last couple of days at work and having to wait for an hour at the hosiptal hasn't really helped.

Anyway, looks like they will refer him back to his GP when the results come back.

Spent £5ish at Herr A last night and have fairly small shop at Mr T's later (few bits of cleaning stuff to get). Will update grocery spends figure later.

Bought the first out of three batches of premium bonds on Wednesday - I know the odds arn't great, but you got to be in it to win it! And I'm not investing huge amounts of money. I will buy the next batch at the end of March.

Determined to get some paperwork done tomorrow - another pile needs to be attached that has been clogging up my dressing table since Christmas, so that my target for tomorrow.

No food to sort out tonight as going for a Curry!!!!!

Tomorrow is Basa Fillets with Lime, Chilli & Soy plus rice.

Hope everyone has a good weekend.
