  • DH has been at his place of work for 30 years today!!!!! Amazing. I have been at mine 21 years on Saturday.

    Wowzer :T:T:T

3 years is seen as long service where I work... :rotfl:

Hope you're feeling better now :)

  • It's been a bit of a back end of a week.

After posting here on Wednesday, I found out that my mum had been intimidated into having some work done to her chimney. It doesn't need doing - so says the roofer that replaced the roof last year and DH who has been involved with the building trade for 30 years.

DH went down to mum's, got the workman off the roof and sent him away with a flea in his ear - he also spoke to the boss on the phone (the one who had cohere mum) and gave him a flea too (p's this is the polite version).

Since then we have been a bit 'up in the air' but coming down now. It was very upsetting by all counts.

Mum is okay now and I have reported it to the police in the hope it won't happen to anyone else. Don't know what I would have done without DH. Didn't fancy a £400 bill.

Now everything has settled I can get on with other things.

Made tomato & pepper relish yesterday along with my first lot of damson jam (another small lot to make today). Also need to catch up with the finances and get the credit card bill sorted.

Took mum out for something to eat yesterday and she really enjoyed it. Nice to spend time with her.

Hope everyone has an enjoyable Sunday.

  • thinking back to Mum's episode last week, I can't help thinking that it could have been alot worse. I hate the fact that there are people out there that will take advantage of vulnerable people. Trying not to dwell on it, but it is a worry.

  • Still waiting for MM payment.

Counted the 50ps yesterday and we have another £20!!

£96 buffet money to pay back into my bank account to cover credit card bill for ingredients etc...

Raining today, so will try to do it tomorrow.

Productive Sunday with second lot of jam completed and DH mowed the lawns - but boy has it flown by - can't believe it's Monday again already!

Going to do some work down out rental property tonight. So the plan is to go home, feed cat, get changed and go down the house. Can't wait to get it rented out, just a bit of a thorn in the side at the moment - must make a concerted effort.

Bacon & Egg Fried Rice planned for tea - store cupboard and freezer ingredients - should be fairly quick and easy to throw together.

Good for DH sending away the dodgy roofer - it is disgusting what some people will try to get away with when their 'customer' is a bit older.

Belated congratulations on the new house (and well done for managing to find a wee bit of time to treat yourself) :)

Ps. What did you get from the Chinese supermarket?

    Thanks Ed.

Settling in now and starting to make it a little more homey - though still loads to do, and boxes to unpack - though nothing urgent!

I am enjoying the little treats and DH is happy for me to do so. Going to have one a month - this could range from a haircut to a massage - depends on budget and needs for any one particular month:)

I like to buy fish from the Chinese supermarket - so stocked up on king prawns, small prawns, prepared squid tubes (all frozen). Frozen ginger cubes too - fantastic and so much less faff (and cheap too - usually just £1 for a takeaway sized tub!). Small spring rolls are another favourite and handy if you want a snack or have friends drop by £2.15 for 60!

Sounds good MCI, although I might be a little squeamish around seafood that has been imported from Asia after reading some horror stories about chemicals used in farming. That said, most of the articles were relatively old, so practices may have improved since then.

I am sure that most of the meat that I purchase in L1dl is no better!
  • No news on MM or £co :(

Did get £70 from some PAT testing DH did for my colleague at work for his wife's business. :) I said to DH, "I've got your money for you." and he said, "you better bank that somewhere", I said, "don't you want any of it", he said, "Nope, all for the pot". Bless!

The cash is building up in my purse, but no chance to go and pay in today :(

A little bit of stuff done at the rental last night - patching up round the window - needs painting tonight with this special wax we have to match up with the rest.

Allotment first and then trip round the rental.

May be going for cheap and cheerful tonight (DH request) as he wants to treat his Mum as she's been helping us with doing up the rental.

If not, it will be fish & seafood spaghetti - which I can sort out from frozen supplies if need be.

  • MM have confirmed that the money has been sent to my bank....at last...but it may take up to 3 days to appear...zzzzzz...... - does it normally take this long with these guys? It's been about 4-5 weeks since I sent the stuff.

No time to go to the bank today - must go tomorrow.

MIL didn't want to go for anything to eat, so we had the fish & pasta (after DH changing his mind about 6 times about whether we were still going to go out or stay in :rotfl:)

Glad we stayed in really as we saved money and had an alcohol free evening :A

Bit more done at the rental, but ran out of paint - having a night off tonight and we will be back to it tomorrow.

Have done some research and !kea have some cheap kitchen doors again (priced between £2 and £6), so we think we are going to replace all the doors in the kitchen at the rental (2 need replacing anyway) - we have !kea hinges and knobs already, so should only cost about £60-£70 to do the lot and it will look so much better. Only plain white, but it will be fine - it will really freshen it up.

Few toms off the allotment (and my cat friend came to see me too).

Tonight we have sweet chilli sausages, red onion gravy and mash for tea - can't wait - nice comfort food.

Happy Hump Day everyone - time is just flying by.
