After reading on Eds thread about friends that have had the bank of mum and dad helping them buy a 400k house - very nice (and kind of the parents to do so) but I think its all to easy to be envious.
Now I have been lucky - through pretty horrible circumstances I have had a couple of reasonable lumps of money that have helped me pay debts and clear the mortgage. However, the most satisfying financial achievements have been these:
Paying off my £2k student loan by myself.
Saving £10k/£13k to pay for our wedding (the remaining was gifted).
Paying a reasonable amount off the mortgage ourselves before being helped to finish it off with my inheritance.
Saving £24k towards the next house deposit in 26 months.
Having joint savings so we can go on holiday, pay for maintenance on the house or even to help our family without worrying or touching any of our other savings.
All of these have been done without the aid of the money I came into.
We should all be proud of our financial achievements (however small). Sure, its nice to get help, but far more satisfying to do it yourself.

In other news!
Decluttered a bit more yesterday - 2 drawers in the unit in the spare room which now have bed clothes in (goodbye piles of clean bed clothes on the sofabed).
Put some summer clothes out of my chest of drawers into the boxes under the bed (I know, I know).
Shopped from my wardrobe as I discovered a few items of clothing in the unit that I had totally forgotten about (now in the bedroom).
Bag of clothes to go to charity shop, a bag of rubbish, bag of recycling and few items for car boot!
Going to carry on like this just a little at a time. Very satisfying.
Hope everyones Sunday is going well.

Morning MCI
I've been AWOL so just had a very quick catch up of your thread, great to see you posting again, I missed the food p0rn ;-)
Can see you're de-cluttering too, I've been doing so much of that in the last 12 months, it's been very satisfying and I just keep at it here and there and love getting the stuff out of the house and off to new owners etc
Regards

Yes, amazing how their attitudes change when they find something out that really is none of their business, but surprises them when they know.:cool:Mortgage Free x 1 03.11.2012 - House rented out Feb 2016

Hey ATT
Nice to see you - thanks for popping by.
Been trying to get sorted for a long time on the decluttering front - making a concerted effort - but not going to 'kill' myself going at break-neck speed.
Been quite good at keeping the house up to speed since Christmas too - makes me feel less stressed and I'm all for that.
Hope to see you a little more often.

Hehe - I hope the comments about bank of mum and dad weren't taken as a dig by anyone?
I fully appreciate that most of us will benefit from unfortunate situations at some point in our lives, I think I was taking the hump because this situation was all good (i.e. loadsa money for friends, but with no negative reasons for the money becoming available).
I freely admit to being jealous, such situations are unusual.0 -
Understandably jealous Ed - but hold on to the fact that you have a plan and you are doing great.
