Another fan of the S123 account, absolutely no problems with it here. You can do better through a series of accounts, but for simplicity, it'll do fine. I know there's often talk of pensioners etc. in this country struggling due to interest rates, but the UK does a lot better than the US and the current rates are much better than the 2.5% we were getting while saving up for our first place!
  • Who knows - in the future I may be able to juggle more accounts, but at the moment for simplicity sake, just going to open the one extra, plus another savings to mop up the rest.

    Thanks Ed.

    Not Much to report.

    Charity meeting tonight.

Been pondering what my next declutter will entail.

Tonight's tea will be the Paella that I've been threatening to do for the last few days.

    Hoping everyone's week goes smoothly.

  • Celebrations all round, the dividend is in

(well it's in cheque form so will need to get down to the bank tomorrow)

It's better than I expected - going to be able to do quite a few things with it - not least add to the house fund! :j

I know I am so lucky to have this - it really helps out.

DH and I are going out to celebrate on Friday - we would have been going out anyway, but now we can go for a special meal. :T

Can't do a thing until the cheques cleared though - but nice to plan.

Finally had the Paella last night and tonight will be Chicken Stir Fry - using up bits in the fridge.

Hope everyone is having a happy Tuesday - it's sunny but cold here today.

:j Great news on the divvy :j
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort
    :) Mortgage Balance = £0 :)

Going to do my Herr A shop today as I am out with work tomorrow evening - really could do with making a list.:)

Red Cooked Pork is just about to click on at home in the slow cooker - will be serving with stir fry veg and noodles.

  • Hi Everyone!

Haven't got my figures with me today, so just transferred the normal £323 to the House Fund - when I get home tomorrow, I will complete my spending diary, shuffle money from our joint account and make my other transfers. It looks like there should be a fair bit to move (before dividend which will be next week some time).

Herr A shop came in at £40ish, but forgot a couple of things - Mr T tomorrow...

Out with work for a Chinese tonight, so DH fending for himself on the food front.

Have a great day everyone - tomorrow is Friday.

  • Happy Friday!!!

Lovely meal out and drinks with work last night (and didn't spend a penny!!! - fab!)

DH got fed by his Mum - so no spends there either :rotfl:

We are however, going out tonight to celebrate the dividend, the end of the month and of course pay day!!

Would have been Dad's Birthday today, so was feeling a little down this morning - but a bit better now.

Will be glad to get this week over with as it's just been mad - probably more to come next week

Done some of my figures and have swept the bank account of half the remaining balance for the House Fund - so another £98.29 added.

The other half will go with my regular ISA deposit into my emergency fund.

A very reasonable sum left over this month - either there hasn't been much to buy or my spending diary is reigning me in. Be interesting to see how much I have left next month :).

Hope everyone is well and looking forward to the weekend.

  • Just been doing some number crunching and I have completed my spending diary for February and started March's.

Interesting points to note (to me anyway!)

£42.10 underspend on the Grocery Budget
£84.55 spent on fuel (over budget, but I only filled up on Tues and now have a full tank that will last me approx. 3 weeks - so potential underspend next month.)
£16.84 on extra lunch items - down £5 on last month's total

The diary has also reminded me that I need to do an invoice to reclaim the £45.67 I spent on the carpet cleaner hire and that I need to claim £18 from our joint account for house stuff.

Not exactly gripping stuff, but food for thought.

Talking of food - March's spend stands at £87.24 so far - hoping for a good underspend this month too. Also grabbed a couple of yellow sticker bargains that weren't on the list, but good buys all the same.

Off out for our meal shortly...really looking forward to it.

I find the spending diary method to be the easiest way of monitoring spending, and it is always pleasing when the grocery spending is under budget.

I try to aim to be slightly under my spending budget most months, so then I can be relaxed if I'm over the budget a few times in the year.

I look at the yearly picture, so as long as it all works out in December, that's fine with me

Hope you had a nice meal out
