I once made a Japanese style steak from adapting a newspaper recipe that went really well. It was basically steak pounded flat, marinaded in soy sauce, mirin and flat parsley and then pan fried in butter
You must be getting excited about your trip - not long to go now!
Bit of both really Ed. Cooked the steak and then added some garlic butter. Then served with extra garlic butter. That Japanese steak sounds great! Bet it was quick to cook too.Goldiegirl wrote: »Have a great holiday!
Thanks Goldie.
Really looking forward to it now, but as always there are 101 things to do first.

Hi everyone - it's Friday!
Had a lovely holiday in the lakes and a great anniversary (last week) and a very hectic week exhibiting at the NEC this week.
It feels like longer since we went away, but its only a week since we came back.
I am exhausted and glad to be back in the office for once so I can sit down. However, my concentration is not the best today and I will be glad when the day is over. I think I am also dehydrated as I didn't get much fluid down me while we were exhibiting and that is not helping the tiredness. It also seems I am suffering from hayfever - I usually get a bit of sniffle, but it has knocked me for six and has led to not much sleep this week.
Anyway, enough moans...
Last month was a spendy month and I transferred just £15 extra to my usual £323 deposit into our house fund.
DH is going to give me an extra £20 per month towards bills as they have gone up slightly.
My fund for annual expenses is also almost depleted - I need to keep a better check on this - so a new page on the spreadsheet is going to be needed (or another page in a book - either or).
I am still e-mailed by one of the estate agents we signed up to last year - there is a house that's just gone on the market that looks good for us - BUT its not an option at the moment, so keeping the info away from DH at the moment as we don't want to complicate our other plans. It is very hard not to look though....
This weekend will be spent catching up with Charity stuff and making a mealplan. Grocery spends need to be kept down this month and there is still plenty in the freezers.
I hope that this post finds everyone well and I hope you have a good weekend.
Catch up with diaries soon.

Make sure you sip water all day, if you have too much your body will sort it out for you
Dehydration is pretty nasty. It makes me feel physically sick, shaky and angry :eek:0 -
Better hydrated now - need to keep it that way.
Weekend went pear-shaped as far as getting stuff for me done - but hey-ho, that's how it usually goes.
Have a friend coming to stay next weekend (unexpectedly) and needed to get the spare room clear so he's got somewhere to sleep! He's a musician and he's got a job playing at a funeral (of all things) next Monday in our town! Be good to see him though as he hasn't been down since Dad's funeral. Mum's pleased - something different for her too.
Managed to cobble together a couple of days meal plan after going shopping quickly on Saturday.
Couple more 50ps in the pot.
Apart from that, very little money news.
Going to do a rice dish involving LO chicken wings from Saturday and LO Sausages from yesterday for tonight's tea!
Hope everyone is well and surviving this very sporadic weather (just had thunder and heavy rain here!)

Glad you enjoyed your holiday , the lake district is one of the places I would like to visit.
I'm terrible for forgetting to drink when I'm busy. Sometimes at work, at the end of the day I realise that I've only had a few sips of water all day, it can't be good for me.
I think I've been lucky with the weather, it's been really nice down here todayEarly retired - 18th December 2014
If your dreams don't scare you, they're not big enough0 -
I'm late to the party but just had to add my own *squee! kittens!* into the mix. They are beauties, I wish (oh, how I wish) they could be mine.
I've been having the same problems with dehydration, I've not realised how warm the house (& work) is and I've felt knackered all week as I kept forgetting to top up, I'm getting pretty close to setting an alarm on my phone to remind me to down some liquids. :eek:a penny picker upper. The conditions are always impossible | The only thing you absolutely have to know, is the location of the library0 -
Hey Goldie and PM - thanks for stopping by!
I have just filled my glass up with water - no excuse when I'm in the office as the water cooler is only 10ft from my desk!
Kitten Update: They all now have homes to go to! 8 days before we are kitten free! I will miss them, but it will be a relief too and then we can concentrate on the mummy cat and get her sorted. We are hoping she will get used to MILs dogs and cat so she can have a permanent home there - we will just have to see once she's been doctored and all the kittys have gone.
Managed to get up the allotment for an hour last night (despite us having 2 storms here yesterday). Oh my, there is so much to do - the horse tail has just gone nuts! Going up again tonight - hopefully for a couple of hours as DH said he would cook tea - he knows how important it is to me to get it sorted - was doing really well before I went away and then with all the sun and rain it's just disheartening.
I am getting my determined head on though - not going to give up!
Still need to get the spare room finished for our visitor at the weekend - but I do have Saturday too - its going to be busy!
Had venison meatballs and pasta for tea last night and tonight we have Cumberland Sausage (bought in the Lake District) and Mash.
Hope everyone is well.
Happy Hump Day!

Happy hump day MCI
We are cat sitting and it is soooo relaxing.
One big ginger boy, chilled out. One multicoloured cutey with supposed Maine Coon genes who squeaks and grooms you. One grey and white phantom, who occasionally appears under your elbow for a surreptitious bunt.0 -
Those cats sound sublime Ed! Enjoy your cat-sitting!
Been AWOL again, been so busy at work and home its been ridiculous.
Did over 6 hours on the allotment last week. Had a couple of days off as I had visitors over the weekend, but now its back to it with a plan in hand.
Not much on the money front - just a couple of 50ps in the pot.
Cooked at the weekend, but had meal out last night as I was knackered and fed up after work yesterday.
Hope everyone is well; will try and catch up soon.
