No Buying Toiletries in March Challenge

I seem to be the only person on here that likes Cowshed stuff. Didn't buy the mag to get the freebie though as £3.50 for a mag that is full of ads doesn't appeal to me. Still to finish off reading the Glamour one but I am struggling as the acticles just seem irrelevant to me and the reviews are just "for you life to have value you must have this item/product now" attitude - which is why I stopped buying mags in the first place. Didn't think at 33 I was too old for the glossy mags but maybe I just am :rotfl:
I'm 23 and I think I'm too old for glossy mags - or rather they're just not appealing to me any more, even Glamour which used to have fairly decent articles has moved into the trashy celebrity gossip area and I'm not sure I like it. I've given up buying magazines for Lent to save a bit of money (and prove that I can do it, and encourage me to read more books) and so far I don't miss them. Thanks I'll look into both of these. Re Supercuts I've seen the salons but think I sometimes associate a cheaper price with the thought that they'll mess my hair up...this is probably not true.
I have to admit I've had a similar experience - swapped my usual hairdresser when I was at uni (Saks) for the one round the corner from my house, and it was terrible. No frills as expected but it was the little things like not brushing the hairs of the back of my neck that really annoyed me. But my best mate has been to Supercuts a few times and says they're pretty good.
Bronnie, I also got that PM. I did reply saying, "Think you've sent this to the wrong person" but now I'll forward it to the site team - anyone know the best way to do this?"A mind needs books as a sword needs a whetstone, if it is to keep its edge." - Tyrion LannisterMarried my best friend 1st November 2014Loose = the opposite of tight (eg "These trousers feel a little loose")Lose = the opposite of find/gain (eg "I'm going to lose weight this year")0 -
An IN to report, but a necessary one. I've got to the end of my Elemental Beauty samples and have decided on a shade called Bunny so I've placed an order for the full size at £12.49 inc P&P.
A UU, the spluttering FCUK body wash. WIBA? Possibly, it was lovely smelling and creamy, and I did love the matching body butter so at some point in the very distant future I may get these again. On to the Champneys now I think:D0 -
Hey guys, nothing really to report, so probably a good thing
Really hacked off with Boots! think I shall be definitely taking my custom elsewhere now.
Firstly they screwed up my boots card etc and now Ive lost 600 points as a result. Secondly they've managed to well and truley screw up my prescription, were so horribly rude to me about it and made me out to be some kind of idiot - plus I now have to go without my tablets for several days
I too had that wierd spam PM that everyone else keeps getting...sunshineyday wrote: »
also opened the cowshed freebie from Marie Claire - knackered cow and reeeeeeaaaaally don't like the smell of this so it has been relegated to use as a foot cream.
I agree, opened up mine it wasn't very nice, mine will probably be used for the same.
Just checked mine is 'moody cow' really floral smelling, I have really bad hayfever so anything that smells like that just makes me want to run awayMFW 2020 #111 Offset Balance £69,394.80/ £69,595.11

Well I've had a PYNM, done properly with base coat, colour and top coat, so I have used up a tiny tiny bit of my stash.
I'm annoyed at myself and have another IN: a dove go fresh deodorant. I was going out after work and realised that I didn't have any spray or anything with me, so rushed to superdrug and bought one without any thought. It shall now live in my locker at work and stay there until it gets used up.0 -

If you open the PM again, you should see a button in the bottom corner saying "Report" - just click that and it should give you a few options.0 -
im quite jealous - WHY arent I special enough to get a spam pm????

£50 is hugely expensive though - I pay £30 in a reasonably posh salon in a very middle class, well off town (including all the frills like coffee) and I think that's pricey, but I like my hairdresser and I know she'll cut my hair how I like it.Thanks, I'll look into this, that's a fab deal.

Just wanted to give my two cents about supercuts....All in all Ive found they arn't terrible, they do the job but to be honest the service and quality really seems to vary between the stores - also there seems to be no consistency in their pricing!
Had my hair done at 3 different stores, the first two were pretty good (Gloucester - really friendly too) and (Cribbs) which was ok but my local one in Cardiff is pretty rubbish, staff are so rude there and to be honest didn't really give me what I wanted - left it a considerably longer than what I wanted and spent the whole time talking to some chav women who reeked of smoke talking about getting drunk....
Prices for the exact same thing varied between £22 to a whopping £37 which seemed stupid to me as I could have got it cut at one of the posher places for that much but anyway (also thier prices quote from £20 for a cut and blowdry - which is what I get).... To be honest as Im unlikely to be going to Gloucester or Cribbs anytime soon I think Ill avoid supercuts for my next chopMFW 2020 #111 Offset Balance £69,394.80/ £69,595.11

Kaz - glad to hear you're all unblocked now :T
I'm feeling unloved - no spam for me:rotfl: maybe they haven't got to the 'S's' yet :rotfl:
This made me laugh (sorry) i remember my grandparents once telling me a story about grandad cutting grans hair. He cut one side an inch shorter than the other, so then went onto correct the other side to leave this shorter... Gran never let him do it again
Hmmm ... he'll be pleased to know he isn't alone thenI asked him to 'trim the dead ends' as I'd got to the point where the last inch or so was all that was left from my peroxide adventure in 2009 - I should have been more precise because (to be fair to him) he did exactly what I asked - and left it all 100 different lengths
So when he evened it out it got way short  (I actually really like it - but for heavens sake don't tell him :rotfl:)
I went to BS to spend my groupon voucher buying a present for my friends birthday. Spent 49.50 in total and NO FREE GIFT.
Well that's not onHave you called customer services? did you mention it in the shop? The SA may have honestly forgotten?

{{HUGS}}Our first 'graduate' of the thread! :T We need to celebrate this! _party_ I think we should start a list of 'graduates' on the first post of the thread, along with their graduation date and perhaps we could also put the number of items they have used up, if they know and want to advertise the fact?
Fab idea :TI had fun and games in the bath last night. I went to get out to get a flannel and to put my book down but there was so much stuff in the bath it was slippery. I slipped and went flying, stubbed my toes on the taps and loads of water came out of the bath all over the walls, floor, my dressing gown and in the bin.
But did you get your book wet?hope you're OK - not too bruised
minerva_windsong wrote: »Incidentally, for stuff that people other than you use (such as toothpaste), do you count that in your stash as technically it isn't just yours?
I'm debating whether to stop counting Bubble Bath - because technically I don't use it - OH does - but I get in the bath water after him so get some leftover bubbles.
I count toothpaste - but I have had a stashing problem with that in the past (we didn't buy any for the first 3 years of living together) and I will be counting toothbrushes again soon but we have just the ones in use at the moment. I have a real phobia about someone using my toothbrush and will change it even if I think someone may have touched it
I don't count Mouthwash (although we only ever have one in and I never remember to rebuy) and I don't count the Handwash in the Kitchen.I seem to be the only person on here that likes Cowshed stuff. I must admit I struggle to see who these mags are aimed at. Glamour, for example, has Fearne Cotton on the cover - who I thought was supposedly a 'Teen Icon' (at least that what she was aiming for with her make-up range), it has the sort of 'surveys' I associate with late teens/early twenties (does your boyfriend want commitment etc) and some fashion features that are precisely the look my 16yo DD wears ... Yet .... it has a '10 EVERYDAY skincare essentials list' where it has a £445 Night cream and an £80 eye cream as a 'can't live without' essential and a fashion feature in Paris with a £10K dress  it just seems all over the place.
and .... being very serious and MSE here .... it's not suprising so many people are in debt way over their heads if these are the sort of prices they are being told it is 'essential' for them to spend to have healthy skin etc
I tend to skim read them, check for any freebiesand recycle
I currently pay about £50 for a cut and blowdry which I think is a bit excessive...or am I just out of touch with prices?Re Supercuts I've seen the salons but think I sometimes associate a cheaper price with the thought that they'll mess my hair up...this is probably not true.
I used to pay £10 for a wet cut (hate having it blow dried as it always makes me look 20 years older ) but have to find a new place now as my favourite hairdresser has moved away and the other's aren't quite right(hence OH 'trimming' my dead ends :rotfl:) The average price in our town is about £25 for C&B.
RE: Supercuts - it's worth trying it at those prices (in fact I think thats where I will go next!) With salons closing due to high costs/recession etc they can have their pick of the 'stylists' who used to work in the salons that used to charge £50/£60 for a C&BMy Herbal Essences Beautiful Ends Intensive Conditioner will probably be used up this week, it hasn't lasted that well at all! I don't have another in my stash so am looking for recommendations from you lovely ladies so I can pick one up from Boots this week.....
I'm using Boots Expert Sensitive Intensive Conditioning Treatment - it comes in a white tub and at the moment is a permanant fixture on the clearance shelf in my Boots ....
which brings me nicely onto ......... sarah*a you're an inspiration to us all
...... because I fell off my pedastal already
After I decided yesterday to give my L'oreal Day Cream & Wrinkle Filler to my mum I decided to go and get a Day Cream today (I have one day left in my current and a sample size left). I was very good and didn't fall into the 'must buy more it's on 3for2' trap - but got trapped in the lunchtime queue right by the clearance shelf and ended up with a bottle of Radox, 2 more conditioners, one tub of treatment and a deodorant(Also picked up 2 x Nails Inc 'Albert Bridge' Top Coat for £1 each but these are for stocking fillers)
Then ended up in Lloyds and forgot I bought a bottle of Bubble Bath (which we don't need anyway!) and got 2 more
So my IN's for today are:
1 x Boots Vitamin E Day Cream (£2.50-ish - needed)
2 x Boots Sensitive Conditioner (50p each - don't need!)
1 x Boots Sensitive Treatment Conditioner (63p - don't need!)
1 x Radox Bubble Bath (60p-ish - had a ACM voucher - don't need!)
1 x Garnier Mineral roll-on Deo (38p - on clearance and had an ACM voucher - only one in stash)
2 x Lime & Basil Bubble Bath (25p each - don't need!)
So ... :mad::mad: with myself
and I still haven't bought any shampoo :rotfl::rotfl:0 -
Thanks for everyone's concern about me slipping in the bath, i'm fine no bruises. The book did get wet Sarah i dropped it right in which i wasn't happy about because i wanted to take it to bed with me.
It's dried out nicely now though and it hasn't stuck together like they can.

Hi ladies, jumping in here totally off-topic, but for some advice without ridicule and humiliation IYKWIM!
I've just received an unsolicited pm in my MSE inbox from a newish user (10 posts), ambiguous title and someone I've never had forum dealings with. Will it be safe to open, it can't corrupt my computer or anything can it?
Thank you:p. The comp's still working thankfully as it's DH's

ETA: Must read the rest of the thread before posting! Trying to decide whther to paint my nails. I think I won't because I'll have to take it off for Thursday night anyway and they're a bit flaky so will stain. There, I've convinced myself.
