No Buying Toiletries in March Challenge

I love the idea of a 'graduate' list on page one of the thread
Mineallmine I can't begin to imagine having all my toiletries in one bag - at the moment there are at least 6 bags as well as the bigger items scattered across the drawer! Plus what's on my nightstand. Plus what's in the bathroom. Eek!
My LE handcreme started spluttering last night so that will likely be my next UU.
I've given up on my NY rose balm as a cleanser and now using it as an overnight treatment and general balm for nails, dry skin etc.
Still enjoying using up my body lotions, it's keeping the upper arm bumps awayNot buying unnecessary toiletries 2024 26/53 UU, 25 IN0 -
Our first 'graduate' of the thread! :T We need to celebrate this! _party_ I think we should start a list of 'graduates' on the first post of the thread, along with their graduation date and perhaps we could also put the number of items they have used up, if they know and want to advertise the fact?[/QUOTE
Great idea.I had fun and games in the bath last night. I went to get out to get a flannel and to put my book down but there was so much stuff in the bath it was slippery. I slipped and went flying, stubbed my toes on the taps and loads of water came out of the bath all over the walls, floor, my dressing gown and in the bin.
Hope you're alright and not too bruised.I'm so excited, I have to tell you all!
I rang the water board at 8.15 to report my drain blockage. They said they'd have someone out within 4 hours. So off I went to work for my fire lecture (which isn't until tomorrow, I'm such a wally!) I got back at 10 past 9. The man hole cover in my front garden was up and leaning against the wall so I peered in it and it's empty, YAY! So I thought that they must have been while I was on my way to/ from work. I went upstairs to empty the bath and check it was draining ok (it was) so I got on with putting on the washing and getting the kitchen up together.
Then thedoorbell rings and it's the water man. I was very surprised and said "I thought you'd already been, the drains clear and the cover's up"
Clearly they hadn't already been so it must just have been that the brick acid had time to eat it's way through whatever was there! He said that if they'd had to clear it, there would have been a charge. He couldn't answer why I was pulling all the stuff out that I was which is really annoying because it just means it'll happen again.
Anyway, here's to a better week with not so much going wrong
And I can have a lovely pampering bath tonight
Well done on clearing the drains Kaz, it must be such a relief. Enjoy your bath!0 -
marie Not sure what the Clarin's ones are like but last time my sister enquired (and booked) at Elemis, they were doing bogof on facials!! So worked out to £22.50 each. She gave me one of the vouchers and it was amazing :j
Thanks, I'll look into this, that's a fab deal.I don't live near you but £50 for C&B seems very expensive. I changed hairdressers a couple of years back because they were charging £30 and the one I go to now is £18.50 and they do a fab job. There are no frills though, no sample shampoos etc, no offer of coffee but the place is clean and modern and my hair looks good. Do you tip when you pay aswell?
No, at that price I don't tip. Things like this where I'm paying so many times my hourly salary really bug me even when I like the results. They do offer coffee, but I don't need that from a hairdresser.minerva_windsong wrote: »Not in Liverpool, but I've always had consistently good experiences at various Toni and Guys. Or for something really basic what about Supercuts - I think they cost about £13.50 for a cut and blow dry but from what I've heard the service is very good.
£50 is hugely expensive though - I pay £30 in a reasonably posh salon in a very middle class, well off town (including all the frills like coffee) and I think that's pricey, but I like my hairdresser and I know she'll cut my hair how I like it.
Thanks I'll look into both of these. Re Supercuts I've seen the salons but think I sometimes associate a cheaper price with the thought that they'll mess my hair up...this is probably not true.0 -
Hi ladies, jumping in here totally off-topic, but for some advice without ridicule and humiliation IYKWIM!
I've just received an unsolicited pm in my MSE inbox from a newish user (10 posts), ambiguous title and someone I've never had forum dealings with. Will it be safe to open, it can't corrupt my computer or anything can it?
Thank you:p0 -
This thread is making me think a little more about spending in general; so slightly off topic but are any of you from Liverpool and able to recommend a good, reasonably priced hair salon? I currently pay about £50 for a cut and blowdry which I think is a bit excessive...or am I just out of touch with prices?
I'm also planning to book a Clarins facial at my local Boots, it is £15 redeemable angainst products. Now I really don't need any more products:o but this seems the most economical way to enjoy some pampering. Rosemary I think it was you who mentioned having this done, how does the treatment compare to a full facial (the cost of which at JL is:eek:).
1/think £50 does seem a lot for a cut and blow..how about hairdressing collages where trainees do it at a low cost under supervision?
2/the one I had at Boots seemed quite good value as there was a free gift plus the money off goods(this was last years offer)I decided against using the one this year as just had a facial as a post christmas pressie anyway.A classic facial at my local salon is £35.
3/ if you dont want to spne a lot on products suggest you buy something like shower gel or handcream which are "relatively" cheap from clarins I used one gwp size on holiday and it lasted 10 nights with 2 of us using it 1/2 times a day so lasts well as you don't need much. The cleansing melt is alos good and not too costly
hope this helps:)0 -
finally got a reply from half price perfumes, they said they had not had any of my emails!they have revamped the site and this is their reply
We do apologize for any inconveniences caused, but yes at the moment the loyalty points are lost to you. We apologize sincerely for any inconveniences this causes.
We are currently working over our site and the points/club membership might become available again in the future, however at the moment it is not.
so lost around £10 with no warning whatsoever that this might happen:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:
now all my orders still show on the website so how hard can it be to add up the points and re issue them?
Think they have just lost one of their "best" customers!!!!0 -

Hmm, as it's on the mse website, I think it should be safe - they'd have to be a very advanced hacker to be able to embed anything nasty in the site itself! Don't open it in a new window though, just the existing one - less pop ups etc to go wrong.
Probably just spam/scam - let us know if it's anything we should look out for, and report to MSE admin if it is.0 -
Thanks!

Report it, so the site team can take some action.
You because you are so popular and active, your name was easy to find I guess. Or sheer pot luck that the spammer picked a random thread to get names from and it happened to be one you posted on.
