Phones4u-Contract Problems..........(Advice Needed)

I went into the shop with the intention of looking at Pay-As-You-go phones and was asked by a man how much i spend a month and i said maybe £10, sometimes maybe £15 and he got me to sit down and i ended up with a contract. I felt so pressured into having a contract, i turned down one handset cos it was horrible looking and all they kept asking me was "why don't i like it?" and "what's wrong " etc and i kept saying "Can i think about it", but i'm shy and quiet and they just ignored me and kept on and on, making me feel as though i was doing something wrong, and anyway i saw a different hanset and i did like it , but would rather have bought it rather than take out a contract, but they kept asking me how much i spent and how i'd save etc, and i felt so horrible when i signed the contract-anyway it's £40 a month with cashback , that will make it £20 a month. I decided to take it back the next day cos of the 14 day returns policy etc, and the man was so rude in the way he spoke to me when i told him i wanted to return it-again making me feel as i though i was doing something terribly wrong and when he asked why i said it was too expensive and he was all like "why did you have it in the first place" and i sat down again and again felt pressurred into having an extra £40 cashback by the sales staff, which would be sent as a cheque in a month. I took it back again, with the intention and determination of returning it cos i thought i still could with the 14 days returns etc and they said cos it had been saved by a redemption deal i couldn't now return it
, and i asked what would happen if i cancelled my direct debit and he said i'd be blacklisted, i felt like crying when i walked out. What's the best thing to do? i still have 7 days left on the return thing. if i cancelled the DD what would i do with the phone and would i be in trouble. also the man said after 12 months i can downgrade to a cheaper one, but i don't know if that would be true or not.

Hi Bella
If you are within 14 days of the original purchase date take the phone back, the comment about not being able to return it because they had 'saved' it with a redemtion deal is nonsense on there part!!
Be strong, they are playing on your nature and emotions....why dont you return the phone to a different phones 4u store (you are entitled to do this) and speak to a female member of staff, be polite but forceful and ensure that you leave the store without the phone!!
go get em!!

this makes me so mad that i would like to give them what for by the way they have traeted you ,you have entered a contract with the shop and if they have a 14 day return policy they are bound by that policy to acsept it back first and the law give you a cooling of perid of 14days, so get a frienld or family memder to go with you and cancell the contract put you will have to pay for what you have used andn you will have to take every thing that came with the phone back , i meen every thing and do it tomorrow if posible with in the 14 day or your stuck with it and do not let the bully push you in to anthing you do not want has he will not be happy about you canceling the contract , be strong and say no, go get them galthere or their, one day i might us the right one ,until then tuff0

I work at Phones 4 U, so I'm sorry to hear about the bad experience you've had so far.
You are eligible to return the phone so long as it is within the 14days, you bring back everything you was given (accessories/cashback etc) and that it is in perfect condition, so long as those conditions are met there is no reason why you can't return
Best thing to do is to speak to customer services to put in a complaint if you have been treated unfairly and they will deal with the store. The number is 0870 906 1830. As one of the posters have said, you can take the phone back to any other phones 4 u store to return it if you feel more comfortable doing so.
Hope that helps.0 -
all they said yesterday was that cos it had been saved from the return i could no longer return it again as they were offering me extra money-so is this all rubbish? i'm gonna phone the Customer service today-if i can get through and see what they say.Halifax-Limit-£500-Balance-£0

i took it back today and still came back out with it, my dad insisted i left the phone there, but i didn't want to as i don't want to be billed £40 a month for something i haven't got. so i went back and got it. the bloke was still adament that i could not return it cos of the 2nd deal. anyway i later went back home and phoned customer service-which i know i should've done first off and they said it does not matter i am still within my 14 days right to return and cancel and they phoned the store for me and they said they would be no problem if i went back this time and the customer service person says that if there were any problems to phone them in store-which i will now do and get their back-up.Halifax-Limit-£500-Balance-£0

Can I suggest that you post your region & perhaps a more forceful MSE'er could help you? I hate how scummers take advantage of weaker people. I'd be surprised if I couldn't have you coming out with a sincere apology (& possibly a financial gesture). I'd be telling them that you will report them to trading standards, watchdog, vodafone & even the shopping centre if they are in one.
PS Reading you last reply, you are certainly morally if not legally entitled to compansation now.Certain OTT members have caused me to add this disclaimer: all advice given is free of charge & as such should be taken to be IIRC (as I don't spend hours researching all answers  )!0 -

I Wish i had the confidence too , but i don't , i thought today taking my dad with me who was insistant would work, but it didn't and we did cause a scene cos he pulled me out the shop. i'm gonna be so nervous tomorrow, i'm taking my brother with me this time, but i'm so worried he will just say the same thing, but this time i will phone customer service and get their back-up, he just keeps on and on that cos i've had a 2nd retention deal the 14 day is now invalid.Halifax-Limit-£500-Balance-£0
