Just to pick up on the point about tax on cigarettes paying for care - don't you believe it. £50k is nothing in cancer care, plus the chest infections etc.
Just read this entire thread, very entertaining at times. WWHarris... well done for keeping your cool.0 -

But that generally means the UK citizen living in expensive rented is adequately housed whilst the immigrant worker who is homeless gets the housing.
I feel it's going to cause a riot by saying it but whilst we have huge levels of unemployment in the UK I feel it's wrong to keep letting people in from outside.
Every immigrant worker is causing uk unemployment and a further dependency on benefits for another generation.
If Uk people do not have the skills we would be better investing in them getting the skills employers need.
I do think some of the problem is the generous benefits system we have that enables people to live happily on the dole.
Thats not true the employer will hire who they find best and a lot of immigrant workers do jobs that other people wont doNeeding to lose weight start date 26 December 2011 current loss 60 pound Down. Lots more to go to get into my size 6 jeans0 -
Theres a person where I work, they work full time and received the same money as me for the past 2-3 years. The person has been in the country for 8 years and has no kids, or no other problems that I'm aware of. The person got a coucil house, I've been in this country all my life and I dont have a hope in hell of getting a council place. Im now working parttime earning half of what this person is earning to try and conintue my education and I could only dream to be in her position.
Its messed up, there also a friend of my gf, bf who has a council place that he rents out for £500-£600 per month whilst he lives with his gf in her council house..... the system is just messed up.
I also dont think that once you earn above a certain amount that you should keep on paying the reduced council rent, you got people earning 40k paying less rent that a cleaner renting privately0 -
If the person you work with has managed to acquire a Local Authority property then I suggest you ask them how they got it.
If you know someone who has a LA tenancy who is not living there and renting it out then you should report them. That could be your property.
Don't just sit there passively being resentful of other people's good fortune, be pro-active and ruddy-well do something about it.0 -

No, the system isn't messed up. In this case, the system is being abused. Public money (YOUR money) and resource is being fraudulently redirected. Clearly, this matter should be brought to the attention of those we charge with dealing with such matters. THAT is YOUR responsibility if you wish to see the system less "messed up".0
