I won't use them for clothes then! I have sent them between 8-10 boxes of CD's and DVDs and had no trouble, they paid me what they agreed to. But maybe ebay/pre-loved might be better for clothing! The fact that they can reject an item yet still keep it means that their system is obviously open to abuse on their side.

That, and the low prices offered on dvd boxsets is why I use cex not magpie for dvd boxsets & old mobile phones, no probs yet, and not too far off what I would be left with after ebay/pp/post costs. I tick the return to me option, so if ever rejected, they come back to me :-)
  • i sent my dvds in on the 15/8/14 and only yesterday i got a email saying they was on the way to them now, if you need the money don't use them unless you can wait 4 to 6 weeks for the money.

    hope it helps

Yes, I sold a lot of CDs to them recently.

It took about 3-4 weeks to get paid (and that was after I chased them up by phone).
When I sent the music CDs to them, it would said I would get something like £62.50 (subject to checking). On average, I would earn 25p per CD - although some did go for more than this).

They actually paid me around £60 so a slight reduction - and of course, they don't send CDs they refuse back to you. Having said this, a lot of the cases were in poor condition so I don't think this was too bad.

Thank you for all the posts re musicmagpie. I've been sorting through cd's, dvd's etc and have about 60 I want to dispose of. I looked at musicmagpie and wasn't very impressed and your comments have decided for me that I'll go elsewhere.
  • I have recently sold a lot of CDs using four different sites, and three of them paid promply and the amount they quoted.
The fourth one is an interesting story. This particular company quoted the best prices in the majority of cases, but that is where the advantages stop. After about a week i got an email informing me that due to a delay at the warehouse my order had yet to be processed.
But i set a little test for this company, due to some rarities amongst my CDs i checked a well known auction site to see what i could get for them, but there was none for sale. Now two days after i get my email about the delay these CDs suddenly appear on the auction site all under the same sellers account, and this seller has a BIG account, and leaves clues everywhere regarding who they really are.
I strongly suspect if they dont sale i will be advised that they have been rejected, after all its all in the Ts and Cs.
Can you all work out what is going on? I will be informing Trading Standards of my suspisions regarding this company. The deceptive email is nothing more than a time buying exercise.

I try to sell most of my unwanted CDs on eBay these days, and then if they don't shift after being listed three times I send them to MusicMagpie. I've used them loads and have never known them to be this slow before - my latest batch was sent about 6 weeks ago and I still don't have the ££. Whatever the issue is that they're having, they really need to sort it out.

I've seen this reported elsewhere, the 'rarity' amongst the regular CDs being rejected, and very soon after, appearing on eBay.

Time for someone to involve the press, Watchdog, or similar ....
  • I probably see an advert for them at least once a day.

Also, I haven't found a change for selling on ebay. :)

Just thought - for what it's worth - I'd post my recent experience of selling over 200 CDs. I used Music Magpie, Ziffit and Zapper. Being sad and having too much time on my hands, I got prices from all three, then sold each individual CD to the company who offered the most. It was hard work, and not worth the effort.

Ziffit was the fastest to pay - within days of sending them. Zapper claimed to be processing my payment, but I had to chase them to get the cheque (why they can't use direct transfer I don't understand...except they get to keep their money for longer). MM kept emailing me to say they were experiencing delays but eventually paid up.

One thing I found handy was to set aside any CDs which the website offered more than the usual, derisory 20 to 50p for, and listed those on Ebay. By doing this I made more from listing half a dozen CDs on eBay than by selling 200 to the traders.

So, yes they do work, and yes they are simple to use. But they pay peanuts. And, to be honest, I don't see how they can make money now that downloads are so cheap. However if you have boxes of CDs in the attic or garage, you might as well cash them in while you can.
