Not sure if to post this here or on the Techie Stuff board, but last night and today while browsing eBay I have got a warning asking if I wanted the website to open a program on my computer (see screenshots).

There was no way I was clicking Allow and clicking Cancel got that eBay has been reported as unsafe.

It only happens while on the eBay website, all other website browsing doesn't trigger this, so I was wondering if hackers have inserted some rogue code into the eBay website.

My virus and malware/spyware software doesn't find anything on my computer, so I was wondering if anyone else as come across this while on eBay?

  • Yep I was sending a message to someone on ebay and a maleware notice cam up. I did back back and tried again and it went through ok. I thought it was strane. Methinks ebay has a problem somewhere
Lifes a !!!!! and then you marry one:D
  • Funny you should say this. I noticed a similar thing yesterday - a message came up saying something like 'Active threats have been blocked' kind of thing. Also happened again today.
  • Yep same here, Norton keeps popping up a warning everytime I start to browse, so given up on ebay for today.

I've had this for a few days. Quite annoying.

Wonder if it's worth contacting eBay to see if they have issues in their site?

This wiped out my laptop yesterday evening. It had been popping up since Friday evening and now we can't do anything with the laptop at all. DH thinks it's had it. He can't even get in to do something to the something (I'm so specific aren't I?!).
Please don't ignore it, it will get you. It got past all of my antivirus software despite it all being up to date.

It is a nasty piece of rogueware going by the name of 'System Tools 2011'. Ebay's servers are infected with it, and it spreads like wildfire.
Yet another good reason to use Linux to browse the net.

  • I had this and also on IMDB yesterday when I was looking up Ross Kemp. Only Ross Kemp, no one else. Very strange.

I had the same screen as you did but it didn't ask me to open anything.
