Thanks.
My summary of information is if you get a warning from your virus protection about a page containing dangerous content do not ignore it close the web page. If you continue to the page a bad infection looks to occur - and you will need to read the links here and elsewhere in detail on how to fix things and it will take a long time.
Ebay seem to be aware of the issue but I can find no official alerts or information on the matter.0 -

There are several threads on system tools on the techie stuff board with advice on how to get rid of it.
I also acquired it yesterday on a lap top and had only been to trusted sites. Was in the process of following instructions to sort it when I knocked the laptop onto the floor - broken screen and no signs of life so it's an insurance job. Problem solved!0 -
Ok so I got this about 10 mins ago.
Wonderful boyfriend got around it by pulling the power cable and battery out, leave for a minute, turn pooter on, repeatedly press F8, then depending on your OS (I'm on xp) choose safe mode option, wait for it to boot to windows, then go to start>programmes>accessories>systems tools>system restore, press next to restore from earlier time, then click most recent restore point on the calendar (dates are in bold), press next and complete instructions.
If the system fails to boot, remove all power and batteries, leave for a while and turn on again. This should then slowly boot into windows where a restore will start (this takes a while!)
Hope this helps!!If you aim for the moon if you miss at least you will land among the stars!0 -
I got a clearly fake AVG message saying 'threat was detected', and a link to 'fix' it. I ignored it, switched off, then ran an full AVG scan, which detected nothing.
I hadn't connected it to a similar warning on IMDB about a fortnight ago. I've used both sites today without a problem.0 -
Got lots of warnings on ebay again tonight though this time looks to be linked to one seller only displaying images from another UK site that I assume has been infected. Turning off images allowed me to visit the page okay.0

using FIREFOX with the NOSCRIPT plugin (and especially blocking 'doubleclick') should help stop infection:idea:0

I had this virus on sunday.. spent an awful lot of time fixing this and cleaning my computer yesterday.. it was working fine (and a lot faster too actually!).. thanks to all the guys on the techie forum..
however, I needed to go into ebay today purely to find out what my fees were this month....... OMG.. within 30 seconds of closing eBay, I had the system tool boxes popping up at me again!!!!!!!!!!!!
so have had to do it all again!
WHY HAVEN'T EBAY MADE A WARNING OF THIS ON THEIR HOMEPAGE???????
oh, yes I know,... cause if they scare people from using ebay then they will lose lots and lots of money!!! :mad:0
