Virus or Malware while browsing eBay

  • This is an interesting thread as I have just paid out £55 to get the 'system tools' or whatever it's called virus removed from my computer. I don't know where it came from, I never got any warnings from any site. It made my computer unusable.
  • The company I work for which is a major one in UK also blocked access to ebay and paypal over this virus yesterda. It all seems to be okay now and the access block has been lifted so I can go and do some shopping again!

I know 3 people who picked up this 'virus' over the weekend, they were all visiting well known web sites. I presume they would have been safe with Firefox or Google Chrome, etc.
  • i had this happen yesterday, thoughtlessly (or cider induced !) click the box and my laptop was completley stuffed. got the bsod !!. 4 hours later (and a few more ciders) laptop was fixed.

    patman99 - is there a website that confirms ebay's infection? I can't find anything.

I had the spyware tool infection last night. Comes up with a blue screen teeling my that it will end my life when my boss, wife, children and friends see what sites I have been visiting. At the time I had facebook, ebay and a random page open (tutorial for sewing). Managed to get rid of it after a couple of hours, but no idea how I did it! Safe mode and a reset.

I got this on both my laptop and desktop. Cleared it off the laptop but it would not get off the desktop ... paying a tekkie £40 to get rid (and fit a new fan).
