Free money but you want it at your convenience.
Suggestions
1. Get to the bus stop early and make sure you are on time.
2. Walk
In short, pretty much the same way you would if you got a job somewhere near there.Justice will not be served until those who are unaffected are as outraged as those affected (Benjamin Franklin) JFT96...YNWA0 -

Seriously, this is just getting ridiculous. I cannot believe that someone who lives in a rural area without his own transport cannot find something to do in the town for a couple of hours once a fortnight.
Read the first sentence of my reply in post #26How far away is the job centre you want to sign at?
Roughly about 8 miles.0 -

What's wrong with wanting to sign on at a time that fits the bus schedule? What a strange attitude you have. Are you one of these self flagellating benefit haters? If the buses run at certain times then that determines when and where I can go. Just saying 'walk' is ignorant and ridiculous.
And what is 'free money' supposed to infer? You clearly begrudge people receiving money to support themselves in lieu of an income of their own. Why? Do you hate your own life that much that you are content only to belittle others you erroneously think are getting something for nothing? It's not for nothing; you ONLY get JSA if you prove you are looking for work. You don't just get handed notes for turning up. Worry about your own life, not resent the lives of people worse off than you, as you might find yourself joining them soon.0 -

Both my wife and I work. We both have cars to ensure we get there. This week mine had to go into a garage for 3 days for repairs.
To get to work at 6am, I had to walk 2 miles to a bus stop for a journey that took 30 mins. I then had to get a train for a 40 minute journey and walk another mile or so to get into work....i made it on time on all three days.
My son works 30 miles away from home. He starts work at 7.30am. He walks the same 2 miles to the bus stop for a 45 minute journey. then gets the train which takes 1 hour and then catches another bus. He gets up at 4am to make sure he is on time. In 6 months he has never been late.
Do I have any sympathy for you? No.Justice will not be served until those who are unaffected are as outraged as those affected (Benjamin Franklin) JFT96...YNWA0 -

Ok that is to the job centre but what about my other questions?
Cycling 8 miles is doable...my son walks over 5 miles to his job with hips and knees dislocating all the while, he just leaves earlier in the morning to get there in time.
You can pick up free bikes off freecycle/freegle or dirt cheap in the local papers. We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -

Good god, I thought when you said it was too far to cycle, I thought you lived about 25 miles away from it!!!! My oh's brother (who is 77) does that on an afternoon for pleasure!:) He used to cycle to work (10 miles) every day, before he retired. Go to the local recycling centre to look for bikes, my oh's brother has had loads that way, he does them up and off he goes:)0 -
I was asked to sign on at 4.32pm (how precise is that?) when I began my claim. I explained that it was a real pain for me as I had to pick my daughter up from school at 3.15pm, get her & the baby in the car, drive the 10 miles or so to the city & then park a good 10 minutes walk away. Basically it was sign then or hard luck. Eventually I got my appointment changed to mid morning which was much easier.
I have just completed a 6 week period of signing every week, I was told my appointment was 11.15 am. It turned out that me & 2 others had a half hour slot between us & it was a lottery who got seen 1st. What an absolute PITA with a baby in tow but it's either that or don't get JSA-what choice do you have?!
I had to attend my 6 month review the other week at 2.20pm & apparently picking my daughter up from school was not a good enough reason not to attend! I am now on a system where I have to see my personal adviser & the appointment is only made at the previous appointment so there is now no guarantee that I can go in during school hours & the job centre now closes at 4pm so I can't make it in after school.0 -
Nickinoo,
Have you taken further advice about this? One thing they surely have to take into account for appointments/signing on times is childcare.....I may be wrong but i would definitely look into it.Justice will not be served until those who are unaffected are as outraged as those affected (Benjamin Franklin) JFT96...YNWA0 -

Oh and you could avoid all this hassle by getting a job, quite why anyone would employ you though I'm not sure.0 -

Your other questions have no bearing on this thread which has already gotten sidetracked by people with their anti-benefits agenda.
I didn't say people can't cycle 8 miles. But in order to do that you would a first need a bike.
I'm aware you can sometimes pick bikes up for free. But for that to happen there have to be people willing to give away bikes they no longer own.I was asked to sign on at 4.32pm (how precise is that?) when I began my claim. Clearly you should get a bike.0
