That may be true. Rural buses, especially privatised, are a joke. It's not helped when even those depend on council subsidy because said privateers withdraw certain services.Well on that fortnightly trip you could take care other day-to-day errands in the town and arrange things so you do so-and-so on your sign-in day to use up some time. I'm afraid generally you have to fit yourself around the JC's rules, as other posters have said this may mean getting the only 2 buses that run all day. I am afraid when you are in a rural area when you rely on public transport you can't expect things to be easy and accept these hardships.
I am not being unsympathetic, I have lived in a rural area relying on buses and encountered many difficulties. I have been there, done that and worn the t-shirt!
Once I had to travel 1 hour each way weekly for a 5 minute hospital treatment, on 2 hourly buses into town and then an inter town bus to/from the Hospital.0 -

But it's only eight miles, so why don't you walk? Then you wouldn't be 'wasting your precious time'.0 -

That's all that I and others have been saying from the start. Spending two hours in town when you live very rurally shouldn't be a problem, it's hardly enough time to do the shopping. I just cannot see why the OP feels that this would be a waste of his time.0 -

And whether or not you are unemployed has nothing to do with wanting to have your time wasted. Why are you so keen on treating the unemployed as second class citizens? Would you tolerate that if you lost your job?
I would only consider those unemployed who choose not to work or who don't make every effort to find work to be second class citizens.
I certainly don't consider my time to be precious when I'm not working - one of the joys of not being employed is being able to waste your time and to have plenty of it to do so.0 -

It's two weeks since you posted. Has DWP managed to sort your signing on issues?ghost_whistler wrote: »This is a straighforward question that I hope can be answered here, and I hope I can ask it clearly.
I anm going to have to start signing on in the next couple of weeks. What i want to know is: given that I have to rely on a bus timetable that doesn't run very often throughout the day, can the jobcentre expect me to sign at another office if they are unable (or unwilling) to give me a signing time that is compatible with said buses.
Or do I have the right to demand that the office (the one in question is better for me all round, assuming they can book me in at a time that doesn't require me walking around town with nothing to do for 2 hours) accomadate me.0 -
Most Job Centres are now open for signing from 08:30-16:50 hrs Mon-Fri plus some on Saturdays too because, such is demand, they've had to open longer to create more signing on appointments.
Doesn't sound like much, but that's an extra 2-3 hours a week that Job Centre staff are expected to work and not be paid for. So I doubt the OP will get far with his "woe is me" routine.
Im sure they would have to pay them or give time in leu-you cant just say you have to work this with no pay.0
