Do you mean since 1997? That's a terrible inaccuracy.

The rule in question is regulation 23 of the jobseeker's allowance regulations 1996, which (coupled with case law) states you must attend where you are told to attend when you are told to attend.

There is no right to make demands, but a very polite request can do no harm
what does that have to do with postal signing?
  • I object to having my time wasted, yes.

    Don't you?

    I'm not unemployed.

Even if I were, I wouldn't object to spending a couple of hours in town every fortnight if I lived in the sticks.

that's your prerogative. My time is precious and not for the government to fritter away just because.

Nothing, I dismissed the notion that postal signing doesn't exist with the words 'terrible inaccuracy'. I then moved on to the initial subject for which you were seeking help and gave you not just factual information but the legal reference you need.

    You're welcome

Tell you what if you won't comply with the one thing asked of you i.e visiting the Jobcentre once every 2 weeks then don't claim the benefit.

2 hours a fortnight for £130 at least. I'd do it, better hourly rate than I've ever worked for.

They haven't done postal signing since the tories introduced JSA when they were last ruining the country. I doubt it's been introduced in the meantime, even during this recession.

Um, postal signing is still used in rural areas & has been since day dot. It most certainly wasn't scrapped on the introduction of JSA.

How do you expect people living in the middle of nowhere to sign on ? Like, 50-70 miles from the nearest Job Centre ? Helicopter ?

  • mmm just as well the better weather will be here when you have to sign on weekly at week 13+ of your claim then!

  • I've just re-read the OP.

Is the job centre which is 8 miles away actually the closest job centre to you?

It's just you've asked if they can make you sign at another office, is there another office that they may think would be more suitable?
