Actually I think I mentioned them in my Pm to you didn't I? If not do contact them for the vid stuff :)

Yes you did. I have contacted them and was told to send in a sample. That was 2 weeks ago but I haven't heard anything.

Another company you mentioned has just recruited in the North East and don't need anyone right now. So not having much luck. On a positive note, I received a cheque for money owed that I had written off, so at least the camera is paid for. :)

I wonder if someone be so kind as to point me in the direction of somebody that could help with some tax questions? Sorry if this is the wrong place?

Why don't you post the questions here and then people can see if they can answer them?

Can anyone tell me how you account for any MS jobs you may carry out while signing on for JSA? Do you disclose the whole fee, or just the 'profit'?

I had to sign on today, so I took the opportunity to ask the nice man in the office.

The answer was that if you work up to 16 hours, you will be asked to fill in a form showing how many hours you worked on each day, what your expenses etc were (including any NI or Tax you may have paid for PAYE jobs) and what is left. The first £5 per week doesn't affect your JSA, but anything over that will be deducted £ for £ (So if you make £10 profit, you would loose £5 from your JSA)

Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.

    A few Q's

I didnt register when I started as I hadnt realised I needed to - Yes, I know - stupid!

I assume there is some fine or something to pay.

I wondered if anyone had a spreadsheet which I could use to work out my profit to declare.

I have a part time job currently which pays around £4500. I would have earned less than £2000 Msing. do I need to pay NI?

When you get a re-imbursement for something bought but get to keep it does it go down as income?

How much is the HMRC petrol rate at the mo.

Thanks al in advance. Go gentle I know I am daft!!!

    1. Yes, but see the first post if you get a small earnings exemption certificate you can avoid it (value ONLY relates to money earnt in Self employed position, not Self employed + part time job!)

    2. Slightly grey area, benefit from the goods should only be incidental, therefore if you accept a job that is reimbursement and no fee it is difficult to argue that it is a tax deductible expense.

    3. Has been 40p, but just announced in the budget will be going upto 45p

Theoretically, not sure of the details though

Thanks so much for your help.

So if I have only earned £2000 Msing then get an exemption and shouldnt have to pay, regardless of how much earned PAYE (unless dedcuted via PAYE)

The job is fee plus re-imbursement, sorry probably greyer area.

Is that 45p for next tax year or this?

45p is next tax year (ie 06/04/2011 onwards).

Ignore any PAYE NI, that should relate to your main job and shouldn't be relevant to Mystery Shopping, you'll get an invoice for any Self Employed related unless you apply for a Small Income Exemption cert. (don't know if/how far you can backdate it).
