45p is next tax year (ie 06/04/2011 onwards).
So, I have just downloaded the registration form and completed. Having put in that I started a year ago (I guess thats the correct thing to do). whats next? Send it off and then complete a self assessment? When do I do that. Is there anything else I have missed?PLAY UP POMPEY0 -

I read in the paper this morning that if NI and the tax system are merged it could have a bad effect on people with small second jobs- eg mystery shopping? As rather than getting the exemption as at the moment, it would all be included in one big tax bill.
They are apparently only consulting on it at the moment- perhaps I should write to my MP...0 -

All rather hypothetical until you know what they plan to do.
P19 Section 3.5

Small Earnings Exemption isn't specifically mentioned but the section as as whole does suggest that people won't see an increase in contributions following any potential merger.0 -
I have a part time job currently which pays around £4500. I would have earned less than £2000 Msing. do I need to pay NI?
Do you pay NI in your job on that salary?
If not, it's prudent to pay NI on your self employed income as it counts towards your state pension and other benefits should you need them, such as ESA and maternity allowance. Here I go again on my own....0 -
Need some help. I can only see this as related to my first self employed tax thing.
Got a letter saying my new tax code is 505T (Tax allowance £5050)
This is as they know i have another job so need to give me tax free relief from that to
Next page it goes on to say "we believe you are currently between jobs" Here is hows your tax is worked out
Your personal allowance £7475
Other earnings -£5050
Tax free amount of: £2425
so the tax code for my new employer is 242L
Totally confused. I'm not between jobs as they clearly understand by naming my empoyer on the first page.
So, is the 242L tax code for my self employed mystery shopping?
Because considering i only had to pay £12.60 at the end of the tax year I think thats a bit steap! PLus, that means i'll get taxed more on my other job and more than likley have to claim my tax back as my mystery shopping will no way bring in £2420
Anybody help?I get what i want. That isn't because i'm a brat or spoilt. It's because i'm determined, i work hard for it and i achieve my goals!0 -

Give them a call to find out where they've gor the 505T from, I'm not sure I'm following which letter related to your main job, but either way it sounds wrong (not a surprise with HMRC), they can always send a revised coding notice. Or send a letter (although there's likely to be a long lead time).0 -

I know what they are like and don't need them cocking up my main job. I can't afford to wait till next april for them to repay me they money they shouldn't have takenI get what i want. As long as you get the notice of coding corrected (and check your pay slip is correct) you won't have to wait 'til April, assuming you're taxed too much initially it will be corrected in the pay slip after your Payroll dept receives notification of any revision to your tax code.0 -

Another company you mentioned has just recruited in the North East and don't need anyone right now. So not having much luck. On a positive note, I received a cheque for money owed that I had written off, so at least the camera is paid for.
Follow them up with a call to make sure they got it.. they had a huge back log of video as it was end of quarter stuff so that took priority. speak to Sarah.0
