I just had a call from Number 1 Claims by a representative called Simon Cooper who had got hold of my details and started to tell me I could be eligable for a claim in an accident I had a couple of yesrs ago.
I am always weary of calls like this but I was more alarmed at how much info he had about it, I started to quiz him on where the information had come from but he couldn't give me any information.... and so I asked about the company details and he gave me the address:
15 Bloom Street, Manchester, M1 3HZ or 3HY he couldn't remember.
I then asked for the name of the Chief Executive of the business to which he replied a 'Mr Alan' I then asked for an initial and he said "A" I then asked what than stood for and he responded "Andrew" It all sounded as though he was making it up which I put to him and then he started to get defensive.
I'm in business myself and I get even more annoyed when a business like this comes along that has my details then when you throw the ball back at them doesn't want to give you the answers.... always a sign they are cowboys in my book.
I won't bore you with any more details but is clearly a company that will be here today and gone tomorrow.... I intend on finding out who the managing director is of this company and taking this matter further and then with the company that sold my details to them!
Does anyone know exactly where the law stand on this?
He said it was gained from when I filled in details on a comparison site but he gave me more details than I know I put on any comparison site... he even quoted me the REG of the car I apparently hit!0 -
As I work in the insurance industry, I thought that I had better reply to this thread and also put a few things straight.
This company is well known in the industry, they call insurers and impersonate policy holders to try and get the insured details, they even go as far as to try and impersonate other staff members who may be calling from another office. basically they will try every underhand method they can, to try and get your claim details from the insurance company.
The most important thing that I want to say is, insurance companies do not give your details to this or any other accident management company, they do not sell them as it is against the law for them to do so. They get your details from, the repairer, the car hire company and even the other party that is involved in the incident, they might even get your car reg from someone who just happened to be passing at the time. There are loads of ways that they get your details, but they do not get them from your insurance company.
If you have any questions I will try and answer them as best I can, just so long as it does not conflict with the DPA or any other rules that I am bound by.

I. I intend on finding out who the managing director is of this company and taking this matter further and then with the company that sold my details to them!
!
that's the easy bit - its David Edward Cullen
http://uk.linkedin.com/pub/david-cullen/4a/3a/148
the hard bit is finding a means of communication which he will reply to since as we know:
- the phone number for the registered company's address is permanently down due to "technical problems"
- the number they leave for you to call back to be removed from their system is a dud number that does not exist
- doing a dial back on BT's 1471 gets you no where
- writing to the address just wastes money on a stamp
- complaining to the Info Commissioner does not produce any results that we can see
if this keeps up much longer (1 call per day for 11 consecutive weekdays running so far) I will personally drive to the registered office and create such a fuss the only way they'll get rid of me is if I'm arrested for a breach of the peace.0 -
Hello MSE,
This is my first post, and no, I'm not here to praise the work of "No.1 Accident Claims."
I received a call from this company earlier today, well it turned out to be 3 calls in the end.
The lady started by confirming my details and the details of my crash, which I had in March 2011. She continued to convince me that I was entitled to claim up to £3000, (sounds really great when you're skint).
I asked many questions about this that and the other, just like others have on here. So I said OK, lets move onto the next step, she then put me through to another department and I was soon speaking to Mike Lehane, who's number is : 0161-209-3872. (I've just called this and he answers on it).
Mike was doing all the sales bit, using terms like, if you don't claim it then your insurance company will make the profit and so on.
To be fair, Mike was polite and pleasant, which I guess he needs to be if he wants me to sign.
Again, I probed and asked many questions about the procedure, etc, etc. I also told him that I only got discomfort in the wrists, after the accident and not in the neck or back, which he stated that the insurance company will probably not go ahead with that, so I said, OK, I just leave it as it is, as I cannot just blatantly lie about something that never happened.
Within a couple of minutes later, Mike was back on the phone, stating that he had just spoken to his manager/team leader, and that the insurances companies will most definitely process the claim for injuries to the wrist.
As always I am dubious about these types of calls, as I have had many in past. So I asked him if I could think about it and call him back, hence how I got his number. Well, his sales expertise came into play and he convinced me to do it there and then to get the process running.
He told me that I will need to be put through to their solicitors to confirm a few details first, and the "advised" (as he kept saying this), me to say that I had the injury to my wrists for about 2 to 3 months, and give details of what happened, etc, etc.
Got put through to their solicitors, (I didn’t quite catch the name), a female asked me a few details, and asked if I could visit a doctor about this to discuss it with them as part of the procedure. (Which they didn't mention before!)
Anyhow, I've had a good look on the internet about this company, hence why I am here and have had a good re-think about this and I will be changing my mind...
I cannot believe that I agreed to go ahead with, especially when I've received many calls like this before and told me politely to not call again, as I am not interested.
Just shows that when you're low in finances, how easy it is to become vulnerable and easily caught out by companies like this.
Here are the details I ascertained today.

thanks very much, most useful
as I not a new user I can post links! So their real website is
http://www.i-claims.info/ and does as Wolfty says, have working phone numbers
I finally answered the phone to them today on their 23rd call, got put through to their "complaints" dept and was assured by "Mike" that my number would be removed and immediately said
goodbye but forgot to hang up and left the line open so i listened in for a few minutes to hear their office backchat. All I can say is their level of training is appalling and the quality of the call centre staff is abysmal. When he realised the line was still open I informed him that if this was not done the Information Commissioners Office said i could make an "individual" complaint and they would deal with it then. He hung up mid sentence...
Apparently you have to have requested the company to remove your details, and then have evidence that they have not done so before the ICO will act
In the meantime a sympathetic person at ICO said they were collating info on this company with a view to taking action once they had evidence of a "lot" of complaints. Sadly however it struck me that the ICO is a waste of taxpayers money on a toothless public sector quango since a search on googles shows there have been a LOT of complaints!0 -
I can verify everything that has been written in this thread.
This company has hounded me for months (in respect of an RTA that happened nearly two years ago). So much so, that someone visited me yesterday with paperwork to sign. I hasten to add that she said that if I wished to cancel, I have seven days.
Well, guess what? After reading this thread [thanks everyone], I have written and cancelled! I also requested that all personal data (paper and electronic) be removed.
Incidentally, the paperwork I was given shows David Cullen as the managing director, and Hampson Hughes (hampsonhughes.com) as the solicitors.0 -
Have had these calls for over a year, first on my land line which is ex directory and registered with TPS and more recently they call my mobile :wall:
They claim my insurers passed on the info, the calls have came from with held numbers Edinburgh London and Manchester area codes and mobile numbers, Tonight I Carl called he seemed to know I have had a lot of other calls from other companies!! :undecided  now how would he know that? and it was the first time according to his records they No1 AC had called me, and they see from the file my insurance company passed them I had not been paid ( Really I don't think so, but I went along with it at no point did Carl name my insurance company by name)
I decided to play along with them after I had spoke to someone at ICO today after last nights call, I felt I needed more info, since I had no joy saying you are nothing but ambulance chasers, I am not interested, it has been dealt with to my satisfaction, All don't work, and I am to much of a lady to simply say F*** Off.
Last nights caller said he was wondering if I could help him with a problem they had, they didn't know if it was my self or the other person who was injuredI said I am not interested but let me write down some details He hung up! challenging them = they hang up
I have been told that I am extremely ignorant and rude by one guy (when I said in my opinion you are nothing more than ambulance chasers,) and I should apologise to him ( yeah right)
anyway Carl stayed on the phone while I played along, saying he would have to go slowly and be precise for me to take in what he was saying, ( I don't write that fast) Anyway he said my claim shows that I was not paid out any money and I could get up to £3500, for a minor discomfort injury, when I asked if he was part of RSA he said that they were a group working for insurance companies, I thanked him for his cooperation in supplying me with the details I needed as I would be passing this and other information to the ICO it was then he said he could put my details into the DNC which basically means I am deceased and do not call, and if I could give him the names of the other companies he would get them blocked and stop the calls from them too that No1 AC were the only company that are registered with the MOJ so I said please do take my details off your data base, and thanked him,
I am not sure how I feel about being "Deceased", or how it will work, in what problems it might cause,
I will still be lodging a formal complaint with ICO, and despite how knowledgeable and pleasant Carl was , I do not believe a word of it, fantastic how he knew about all the calls I have been having from what he told me are rouge callers, Now I wonder if he has the winning lottery numbers for tomorrow :whistle:0 -
@ em_and_en
Just looked at Hampson Hughes and some of their phone numbers seem very familiar too,
