  • We were supposed to have chicken last night, but the frozen chicken smelt awful after being defrosted, so went into the bin :( Hopefully chicken will be on offer in the supermarket today, so we can have this meal in the week.

Chicken with Mr S Basics curry sauce (plus other spices) on rice.

Chicken & Garlic kievs with rest of curry sauce and rice.

Penne with a jar of pasta bake which has been in the cupboard for months.

Kievs, frozen broccoli and waffles which were on offer the other week.

Chicken with a biryarni sauce and rice.

Lemon, garlic and herb chicken drumbsticks.

Reggae reggae cookign sauce with chicken breast and rice and peas.

Oh dear that is an awful lot of chicken this week!! May have to rethink this.. I'm just trying to use up all the jars of sauces that are in the cupboard before buying anything else. Mr S is still doing three packs of meat for £10, so going to buy that and freeze some of it.
  • Hello all,

It's been a while since I've been round this part of the forum, but trying to get back into my MSE ways after a period of unemployment, and living with a self-employed OH without a regular income (however hopefully those days are behind us - but I'd rather have a better nest-egg for the next dilemma!)

    Meal plans starting today 27/2:

Sunday: HM chicken pot pie with filo pastry and mashed sweet potato
Monday: Breaded chicken, chips and coleslaw
Tuesday: Epic Salad (basically, salad with all our favourites)
Wednesday: Pizza, potato wedges with cheese, coleslaw (OH's birthday, so he got to pick :p )
    Thursday: bolognese pasta bake
Friday: Eating out (part of the birthday celebrations, so a treat for us)
    Saturday: Sweet and sour noodles

Lunches of sandwiches, salads, and probably some cous-cous or pasta depending on what strikes my fancy.

  • I have never done this before, but I do meal plan religiously. We have a possible redundancy hanging over our head (DH) so really need to crack down on any extra spending. Here goes:

Snacks will be HM brownies (Nigella's recipe) and flapjacks, breakfast will be either porridge or muesli (for DD's) with toast (HM aniseed bread) or just toast for DH and I.

  • Well I've had two weeks off of here and the contents of the veg box are threatening to overwhelm me as I haven't planned properly. The first week off was due to illness and cooking became fast and furious so veggies really didn't get much of a look in so MUST get back on track.

Sat - bean and vegetable burgers on couscous with a tomato sauce.
Sun - HM pizza and chips
Mon - going to try the bean and veg burgers again as Sat they went splat but tasted great. This time with boiled potatoes, red cabbage and gravy.
Tues - cauliflower cheese with carrots and bubble and squeak.
Weds- lenten bake with red cabbage.
Thurs - couscous with spicy vegetable sauce
    Fri - butternut squash risotto.

As it is nearly March I am going to turn the oven and hot plate part of the rayburn off this week, we don't need the extra heat anymore, so I will have to get back to being really organised about getting the best use out of my 2 ring hot plate and microwave/combi oven.:o

Hi D&DD, yes, the pasties will be homemade. I'll be making a batch of shortcrust pastry using 200g flour, a pinch of salt, 125g butter and a splash of water, then adding a mixture of very finely chopped chorizo, normal sausagemeat and red onion. It'll then be a case of drawing around something like a small breakfast bowl and putting the filling in. :)

    Hope that helps,

ooh thanks so much Bunny they sound gorgeous!
