I got my statements in a timely manner from First Direct, I put in a claim for £530, 20 days after I sent my claim letter I got a letter from them saying that they were looking into my claim and that they would be in touch with me within 10 days.

The 10 day deadline has now passed so I am writting to tell them that if they do not settle my claim within 14 days I will take them to court

so here we go then ....

I thought it was just me that had the quick service from Direct Line. Sent demand for £330 on 4th May, received letter agreeing to it on the 9th, sent disclosure and returned and am just waiting for them to pay up.

Here is a copy of a letter received from First Direct recently:

"From 1 May 2007 we will be reducing our overdraft fee from £30 to £25. In November 2006 we advised you of changes to our overdraft service. They were due to take effect from 1 May 2007. Technical issues now prevent us implementing these changes until 1 October 2007.

I will write to you nearer the time with a reminder and full details.l"

    WHAT A CROCK OF S**T!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Do First Direct record calls ? I am interested to know as I have a court case with them shortly

    Yes they do.

Also on this subject - I used to work for FD and have friends who still do. Apparently they have a new team set up purely to deal with refunding bank charges because of this campaign! :rotfl:

I have just started looking at reclaiming my charges from First Direct and have hit a problem.

I can't decide if i'm able claim both

"Overdraft fee" - usually a set fee of 30 pounds

    as well as

"Excess Overdraft fee" - which seems to be anything first direct would like to charge.

I can see that this question has been asked on a couple of other occasions by different prople but don't seem to be able to see an answer.

Please can someone help me with this as it will make a big difference to how much the claim will be.

    Thank you

I've claimed for both + interest, I figured I may as well and see what happens after all it was their charges which made me go overdrawn even more when my son was in and out of hospital for 3 years and I had to leave my job to look after him. I even rang them and told them what had happened but I kept on getting charged and it snowballed from there!!!

The overdraft fee is what you are charged when you go over your agreed od limit in a 1 month period. However if you continue to go over for limit for each day you get an excess od fee.

Should you correct your ac and then go over again you can only be charged the excess od fee.

    Claim both back!
  • I am now pursuing bank charges of an account i had with First Direct that in effect closed august 2006,

I asked for the statement and when i read it with a more informed view , I could not believe what they have charged me over the years and you just at the time shamefully accepted that it was correct.

Just to give one of numerous instances on the same day they charged me £8.97 interest £30 overdraft fee and a staggering £119 for exceeding my overdraft this was in nov 2002 and totalled £157.97 in one day other charges ensued and then in the following feb the topped that by charging me £5.13 int £20 overdraft fee and then an amazing £129 exceeding overdraft limit £154.13 in one day remember this was nearly 5 yrs ago and my salary was not great, over the years they have charged different fees for the same thing varying from £20 through to £129.
This was for me an enormous amount of money and i had no chance of replacing this so they in between did the usual and offerd me loans to get me back in line, They in fact were setting me up by terrible methods that loan sharks would be ashamed of. I am furious to say the least, how many people over the years have been abused by these methods of extracting the blood from stones,
Just to sum up I am now pursuing £4000+ from them including interest and yet the real cost is even more because of the extra interest on loans i would not have needed and the worry and stress they caused.
I do hope they refuse to pay I will go to every court in europe and show them up for the people they are

Good luck!! Those charges are distugsting!
  • Haven't posted on this thread but all the posts have been invaluable with our claim. To cut a long story, made a claim for £2400 from First Direct at end of April, received the usual 85% offer of £2040. Sent an LBA last week and unxepectedly received a full offer today of £2400.

    Thanks again.

    Hi guys,

I need help from someone please.
I need to submit my court bundle to be in for next Wednesday (23rd May).
After Wednesdays judgement it's clear that the Terms & Conditions from when the charges were applied to our account are crucial to our cases.

So can you have a look and see if you can get your hands on a copy of the First Direct T&Cs from 2000 - onwards.
If you find it can you either scan it and post it or arrange to e-mail it?

It would be a great help if you can to many of us....not least me as the clocks ticking.
