Can anyone tell me if First Direct charge for the list of charges. I have read that HSBC do not. Also can you tell me if there is no charge - should they just send them to me. I sent the original letter 7th April, but because some companies charge and some do not, I did not send a fee, however I put a paragraph in asking that should a fee be payable for this service, to let me know by return. To date, I have not heard from them. Any advice????

I sent a cheque for £10 to FD with my request as suggested , but they sent it back with a letter acknowledging my requests and I got the statements for free.

I successfully claimed back my charges, which they paid minus the interest - but I was fine with that (and they didn't close my account either, but I am a model customer now!)

I used to work for First Direct and I understand they are currently setting up a department just to deal with this subject, so they obvioulsy don't see it going away any time soon!

Sent off my claim letter on Saturday and got my offer letter today!!
Claimed £1441 and got offered £1190.
What do you think? Take them all the way or just be thankful for an extra £1190 in the bank??

First direct are renowned for sending an offer of just under the amount you are claiming after only the first letter.

I put in a claim for £635 and after the first letter to them they offered £540. I almost accepted but £95 is a lot of money to me. LBA sent and 'after further consideration' they have agreed to refund £635.

It's only another letter to send. If you want your full amount send them an LBA saying you accept their offer as a partial payment but will go to court for the rest, this way you wont loose anything and will almost definately get the full amount you are claiming. If you want a template letter let me know and I'll send you the one I used for them!
One day I will be debt free and fat free!:grinheart

Thanks Thumbellina for that information. Did they take the 40 days? Then how long from there onwards. I sent my 1st letter out 7th April. Thanks.

FIRST DIRECT MERGED CURRENT ACCOUNT AND MORTGAGE.

I had a first Direct current account which ran into a serious overdraft (mainly due to charges), which was while my husband was out of work. When he found another job, they culminated the overdraft of around £8000 and added it all on to the mortgage and advised us that was theonly way to clear it in one go. Therefore can I claim back from the current account for the charges and themortgage account for any other charges???/

    Bank: First Direct
    Amount claimed £1436 plus interest = £1587.56
Amount offered £1220 - holding out for full amount

I'm claiming for my son, I filed a claim with MCOL and he has just received a 'Notice of Transfer of Procceedings' They waited until the 28th day to file their defence! So I guess we now we wait to hear from Bournemouth County Court with a date. Can someone who has gone this far with First Direct let us know what to expect next? Should we expect to hear from FD's solicitors? I'm expecting them to wait until the day before the court date before offering the total amount.
  • Hi guys, just need abit of advice really.
I received a letter yesterday from First Direct saying they will pay £1330 after applying for £1564 in unfair charges to my account.:j
However this was only the last 12 months of charges after telling them I was under the impression I could claim for more-do I request a full list of charges for the last six years or take what I've been offered?
Good to see the big banks are accepting they are in the wrong at long last.
    Many Thanks Ian

I would find out how much you've paid in total, it may well be alot more than £1564. You can then make a claim for the whole amount.
