Has anyone ever had their Credit card bill merged with their overdraft by FIRST DIRECT. This is what they did to me. I never went over my overdraft limit but I did not pay money in regularly. I now have a bit of money but they are demanding the full balance.

Are they allowed to merge my Credit card and overdraft, close my account and demand the full balance as well?

oh yes they did this to me when i told them i couldn't meet the repayments on my personal loans. They then farmed it off to a DCA demanding full payment.

I have totalled up my charges to £1998 plus interest. the statements came within 3 weeks. Letter going to tomorrows post now.

I claimed £885 and I received a letter on Saturday to say they were refunding £753!

    :j

I sent the acceptance letter back on Saturday afternoon - does anybody know how long it takes them to refund the money and do they return it by cheque or just credit your account?

Can anyone tell me if First Direct charge for the list of charges. I have read that HSBC do not. Also can you tell me if there is no charge - should they just send them to me. I sent the original letter 7th April, but because some companies charge and some do not, I did not send a fee, however I put a paragraph in asking that should a fee be payable for this service, to let me know by return. To date, I have not heard from them. Any advice????

    Advisor on phone advised:
"It wont be held against me for attempting to claim back charges and First Direct wouldnt close the account as they dont operate like that"
And by all means request the charges back and they would look into them"

Sent my letter off to FD last Monday claiming for 3,100 and got a response today offering 2,635. Has anyone else negotiated on the amount. Not sure if I should ring them and just ask for more, send a letter asking for more or just accept.
But any tales of anyone else negotiating would be really useful - thanks

Absolutely, hold out for the full amount. I've won 3 claims thus far, and each time they tried to offer a short settlement which i said they could ram!! They then sent full payment though it did take me starting court proceedings to get it from them. It may mean you have to pay court fees, but you get it back.
