    Hi natbyrne

    Well done!

Would you add your victory to the success sticky at the top of the board please.

Sorry, first time poster here so sorry if this is the wrong place. But my husband and I are at the beginning of the reclaiming bank charges process and as we have an account each and two joint accounts all with First Direct we are not too sure of it is better to make 4 individual claims or just one big one. The breakdowns for each account are below:

    My Sole Acct - £2476
    OH Sole Acct - £1435
    Joint Acct 1 - £1330
    Joint Acct 2 - £505

    Total - £5746 (!!)

We were thinking that maybe if we made separate claims as they would appear small and we we may stand a better chance of recouping all of our money. We have created a Schedule of Charges for each account.

Just wondered if anyone had any advice really.

    Thanks.
  • Maybe do your one separately as the highest and the other three together?

Have a read through this thread and see the amounts other FD customers are claiming.
  • Six years statements awaiting my perusal at the office this day.

    Total charges £1390.50p.

Claim letter sent this day. Will update when I hear anything else.
  • I've just added up charges on our joint account, total £888.00 since Aug 05, in one month we had £149.00 of charges when my husband was made redundant because of a car crash while at work, not his fault, bank not understanding at all of our situation. 1st letter going in the post in the morning.

    Wish me luck
  • I am helping my son claim back his charges. With regard to overdraft fees - can someone clarify what I can claim back - on the help section with regard to what you can and cannot claim - in the Can Be Claimed Section is states Exceeding Authorised Overdraft Limit and Exceeding Unauthourised Overdraft Limit. Never having used my overdraft limit I am not sure what I can claim from his statements.

The wording on the statements is:
DR Overdraft Fee (appears every month
DR Excess Overdraft Fee (appears regularly)

Can I claim both or just the excess fee. Or is the Overdraft Fee classed a service fee etc?

Appreciate anyones help in this matter.

  • I'm With First Direct and am asking for both. I've only just send my request off so will let you know.

    Hi,

    I'm claiming back from FD.

Overdraft Fee - is charged for the first day you go over your overdraft during statement month.
Excess Overdraft Fee - is charged for each day you go further overdrawn during statement month

So both can be claimed back, good luck :rotfl:

    HI all,

FD have acknowledged my court claim so now in limbo waiting for any sort of response, its so nerve wracking. I'm hopeful due to all the success stories but then again there's always the chance we'll be unlucky. 28 days can be a long time when you're waiting!
  • Every Year First Direct charge me something like £25 for the pleasure of having a £500 overdarft instead of the standard £250 overdraft

Of course I pay interest on this overdraft.

    Is this fee illegal?
