it so easy to get excited and do too much at the begining isnt it? i'm currently banging my head about investments etc ... i want to ry and understand what it is all about ... the only thing i can liken it to is trying to learn a new language .... its all foreign to me
i feel as if in some ways i am on top of the debt paying finance stuff ( it is just going to take time) but i need to learn to look to the future as well ... that is going to mean stocks, shares etc etc so that i can get the second part of the 100 month up and running in the right direction
i think i need a jargon buster and a very simple lead me around by the nose kinda lesson :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
Am with you on that El. All greek to me! (possibly why I have none!)0 -
it is miz ... totally confusing ... and there are so many different things to learn all of which feed into each other ... the macro affects the micro and vice versa etc ...
but .. if i want to finish this 100 month challenge with not only no debt but having a decent amount of savings ...i need to learn all about it ...
dont get me wrong .... i do want to learn all about it i really do .... i dont have a pension worth speaking about and it really hurts eating beans on toast just now ... i dont want to get to retirement and cant even afford that0 -
Beans on toast hurts me as well..but that is often due to the *parp* affectBlackadder: Am I jumping the gun, Baldrick, or are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?
Still lurking around with a hope of some salvation:cool:0 -

serious electricity consumption worries here ... i took a meter reading approx 11pm before i went to sleep ... no electricity was used ( apart from one cup of tea made ( kettle boiled on minimum) and t.v on for 30 mins ... by hubby this morning ... i got up and re read the meter ... we had used 5 units in 12 hours .... so obviously things that are left plugged in are costing us a fortune ... things like the fridge freezer the p.c the t.v ( although not actually in use apart from the half hour) cable box, phones ( cordless ones) etc ... that is alot of electricity to use just keeping things turned on ... will need to try and tackle this ... over 12 hours that is 5 units so 24 hours that is 10 units ... and that is before we use the washing machine the cooker or the oven etc ... hmmmm * el wanders off pondering *0

Hi El.. not sure what is normal amount of units to be using! Are PC and TV on standby or switched off? Can you switch cable box off at the wall or does it need to be left on? Is something I've been thinking about too as I think we're pretty careful but bills still seem quite big. Wondering about investing in some energy saving stuff like kettle and toaster.. but then it's the initial cost...Debt@16.12.09 £10,362.38, now debt free as of 29.02.2012."I cannot make my days longer so I strive to make them better."0

we only really boil what we need in the kettle now squizzm so it generally boils just enough for one or two cups of coffee ... i used to have an expensive kettle .. it cost me over £50 to buy ( a few years ago now) but when it broke within two years i decided i wasnt spending that again so i bought one from as*a for £7 and its worked ever since ... i am sure it costs more to boil than an environmental one , but as i am only boiling one or two cups worth and the price of a new kettle may be alot ( and there is no guarantee it will last for a long time either) i dont think that would be financially adventageous for us,
its a quandry that takes a while to work out ...
kinda like we were looking at curtains for the living room window( as i didnt think we could shut the current ones we have) ... i saw some that would do but needed three pairs costing £80 each ... i went back home and struggled with the ones we have ... i still cant fully close them ... but i can enough to the extent that it makes it the better option0 -

Hmm can you add some contrasting fabric to the inner (or outer) edge of the curtains to make them fit? Bound to be cheaper than £240 :eek:Do not meddle in the affairs of Dragons, for thou art crunchy and good with catsup
