Gosh - I wonder what our stuff is costing left on. Have to confess I tend to leave TV/sky on standby (not the computer but the TV as I think if I switched it off I would forget to switch it back on and it wouldn't record things (might misss Downton!
). But interesting thing to check - for all sorts of reasons cutting back on energy consumption can only be a good thing.

we will check tonight with the pc and a few other things off ... will need to leave the freezer ( 2) and the phones plugged in ... and we will see what happens tomorrow morning ...
i think were ok now tbh dragon ... now that i can tug/pull/drag the curtain over the window it should help ... it was a window that we had replaced due to the robbery so it is new and shouldnt really be draughty but if i am in the living room i am closing the curtain at night now ... how bizzare though to be living here ten years and not closing your curtains:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
i am on a bit of a rant ... we occasionally go to the pics on a wednesday as a treat ... so as we have both been feeling a bit down regarding food bill gas ad electricity bill ( and to save on putting the heating on) we went to the cinema tonight to see tin tin ... it cost us £10.40 £10.40 !!!!!! because it is in 3d ... £8.40 per person with a surchage of £2 for the orange wednesday ... !!!!!! i feel so annoyed .. couple that with getting sweets and ginger for the pictures and it certainly isnt a cheap night orange wednesday or no orange wednesday sheesh ..0 -

i reckon it should be again lol ... we went to thailand and for two luxury tickets ( which got us a recliner sofa ... luxury being the operative word) two popcorns and two drinks we were £2.50 and that was only 4 years ago !!!!!! ... probably cost you £3 now ...
honestly i saw famillies with four and five in there ... parents taking the kids etc ... i would hate to think what their bill was ... a few had bought popcorn etc from the cinema as well ... i shuddered watching them ... no wonder this county is in the mess it is in0 -
Indeed
, I'm guessing some of those families will get through £200-£300 on a "cheap day out" and wonder why they are always skint!

i realy feel for them dragon ... it cant be easy or cheap ...
although what i have also noticed ( and this isnt everyone i am noticing this about ... just people in my local area) is that a family day out seems to be spent in the local high street or retail park with shopping of some sort being done followed by lunch dinner etc at a burger place or pizza place ... that imho isnt really a day out ... a day to a local nature reserve ( take pieces with you ) free ...ok petrol diesel etc and packed lunches but its spending time with your loved ones and in as cheap a way as poss ... there are other places than just nature parks ( i just love nature parks)... but what is this shopping frenzy teaching the kids ... its teaching them to consume ..amongst other things ... i just find it sad , and i'm really glad i chose to bring my son up differently0 -
7 units of electricity since. This morning ... I had the t.v on for a few hours and I made 3 cups of coffee ... Didn't make any dinner so no cooker usages ... That's a lot of electricity for very little use ... I'm starting to understand why my bills are so high now0

We had a monitor thingy from British Gas, and I switched it off after a while as it didn't work properly with my antiquated electric system. I *know* how much electric I use because I'm on a pre-pay meter, so can see what I use in money terms. When I queried it, they said I must have put the info in wrong, so they sent someone out. And it was still wrong! So I gave up. But it is scary watching the thing peak when you switch stuff on.
Lots of stuff has to be left on though, fridge freezer. I also leave the cooker on because otherwise I have to keep resetting the clock, and the virginmedia box otherwise it won't record. I did get a gizmo that turns all the telly type stuff off when you press a certain button, but DS got annoyed because it kept disconnecting his internet!Debts at LBM - Mortgages £128497 - non mortgage £27497 Debt now £[STRIKE]114150[/STRIKE][STRIKE]109032[/STRIKE] 64300 (mortgage) Credit cards left 0

also you'll find that on your electric bill the less you use is pointless due to that the first so many units are loads dearer than the cheaper ones that follow0
