I *know* how much electric I use because I'm on a pre-pay meter, so can see what I use in money terms. When I queried it, they said I must have put the info in wrong, so they sent someone out. And it was still wrong! So I gave up. But it is scary watching the thing peak when you switch stuff on.
Lots of stuff has to be left on though, fridge freezer. I also leave the cooker on because otherwise I have to keep resetting the clock, and the virginmedia box otherwise it won't record. I did get a gizmo that turns all the telly type stuff off when you press a certain button, but DS got annoyed because it kept disconnecting his internet!
i had a look at what we keep on as well ... fridge freezer, freezer two virgin boxes ( believe it or not we get cheap(ish) t.v etc) phones (4)
last night we turned off the cameras ( we bought them after we were burgled) the p.c, the dehumidifyer (sp) the kettle and the microwave ... we used 3 units of electricity ok its better but ...0 -
also you'll find that on your electric bill the less you use is pointless due to that the first so many units are loads dearer than the cheaper ones that follow
totally right Taxi, our first 225 units per quarter are more than double the unit cost of the rest
they have us every which way dont they :mad::(0 -
Have you looked at average electricity usage? Don't think you are actually doing too badly at all. Although that doesn't help with cutting the bills down.Debt@16.12.09 £10,362.38, now debt free as of 29.02.2012."I cannot make my days longer so I strive to make them better."0

Yes our average is 18 (roughly) a day ... Which would indicate given that we were 5 not last night but the night before in 12 hours that we are 10 in 24 hours just with standby stuff alone ... So our actual daily usage ( not including standby) is 8 perday ... Effectively we are using more due to standby than actual usage ... That's concerning I reckon0

Sorry I meant average for a household of your size.. there's a few interesting threads on here with people comparing the amount of units they use.Debt@16.12.09 £10,362.38, now debt free as of 29.02.2012."I cannot make my days longer so I strive to make them better."0

i'll check that out ... we are a two bedroom detatched bungalow with a basement ... not your average type of house lol
ooooooo in other news ... i have started the holiday planning process ... i think i may be booking it soon ... it is going to cost a fortune and i havnt even figured out how i am going to find the money ... i have no doubt we will get deeper into debt in the process ... but this will be only the second holiday that i have actually really wanted to go on ( the first being Poland) the other holidays were for son, hubb, mil and fil ... yes i enjoyed them and i cant say otherwise ( ok not all .. remember Florida and London ( although i liked certain bits) this year) but they have all ( apart from Poland) been for other people ... this one is what i want ... so we have dehli, agra, jaipur, kerela ... doing different things each place
now to try and figure out how on earth to pay for it0 -
Difficult one El- i wouldn't like to calculate how much that would all cost.
Although you could do a Ewan McGregor and Charlie Borman version of it-by going on a bike and getting a tv company to sponsor it all..:) Having your jollies and getting paid for it sounds good to me.Blackadder: Am I jumping the gun, Baldrick, or are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?
Still lurking around with a hope of some salvation:cool:0 -
I think it will be a tad expensive bob ... We did Thailand for hubbys 40th and I really want to go to India ... But I did mbing to pay for Thailand ... So it was essentially free ( not if you charged an hourly rate for mbing obviously )wonder if I can do a film .. I'm atleast as good looking as Ewan surely lol ... * el toddles off thinking of ways to raise cash for holidays without getting further into debt*0

I really need to do a monitor on my electric - my bill for it is huge. Just got one of the monitor things (freebie) so need set it up and start monitoring it for a couple of days - then start experimenting with switching things off and try to find out just what it is that's gorging itself on electric
Ooooh, the holiday plans sound good El, but quite expensive I'd imagine ? I keep meanting to look at MB'ing but think it may have to wait a wee bit, till I can settle finances a bit
