  • I think you should change job, look at it this way..less night shifts, so more able to do things as there is not the waiting up or winding down afterwards( which must lose days)
More money, therefore plans completed quicker.
    More time with Mr.El
    A bigger pension pot.

It certainly has lots going for it in my opinion.

I think so too - very little to lose and lots to gain, potentially.

As for the percentages - you need to also decide what falls into what pot.

So, I have a "lifestyle" pot, and into that falls things like my hair cut and colour, legwaxing, drinks after the football, and my cleaner. Out of that also has to come any meals out - they are not a living expense to me, they are a lifestyle decision.

If I decided to get Sky, for example, it would fall into "lifestyle" not "bills".

There is then a priority within each pot, of course, so I then decide which is more important - the cleaner, or the legwax, if money cannot cover it all for any reason.

Since doing this and giving everything a proper home, and a proper priority, I have found that I actually manage to achieve much more of the "lifestyle" things than I ever really imagined I would be able to do. So far, I have not had to cut back on any of them, and have probably (ok, definitely) been able to increase them somewhat :D

So, grab your pad and paper and start doing a mindmap.....x

actually technically speaking ... i would be spending less time with mr El ... i tend not to have the issues of waiting up and winding down ... night shift does suit the family life better .... i also tend to be awake late at night anyway ... so i am a kinda nightshift naturally person so it is gonna be a bit harder in some ways

but yes bigger pesnion pot that is a deffinate ... possibly more money through bonuses etc ( although a lower hourly rate)...

so it is alot to think about

that is deff the way i think i am leaning too.. i think it will be much easier in the long run ... i have started discussing things with mr el and slowly he is starting to get it ... he essentially wants savings he has wanted savings for a long long time .. however as he chose not to be involved in the money decisions just the spending he didnt understand our lack of ability to save .. .now that he sits down and see's it in black and white he now understands why we didnt have any savings before ... now he is working on getting some and enjoying being in control of the food budget ...

sadly my mind doesnt understand mind maps ... i think too linear .. i have tried and tired with them but i just get lost and confused so i go back to linear lists plans etc ... funny how we all work differently isnt it

mr el just asked me if we could have a chinese tonight ... i looked at him and said well your in charge of the money this month for food ( i think even though i am going to put take aways on the experiences list i will still add it into the food budget somehow ... not sure yet how though) so you tell me ... he said well how much have we spent ... i replied go get the big red book ( this IS our life lol) so he got it we worked out we have spent £25 in food so far this month (so technically we could afford for him to have a takeawy) mr el said ... right if we have money at the end of the month i will have a takeawy .. tonight i will cook ... i think he will grow to love this control of our food budget

so i was reading the tim ferris book four hour week thingy ... then i googled him and had a wee read ... i found quite alot of negative press about him ... some of which i had been thinking myself ... so i have put his book to the side .. i will read it as i know it has gold nuggets of info in it ... but just now i have decided to read rich dad poor dad

i am enjoying this book ... it takes the steps of the richest man in babylon and puts them into practise for me ... so i think i made the right decision ... have been speaking further to mr el on the subject .... i am really enjoying this new aspect of our relationship ... i am enjoying sharing the responsibility ... before it was just left to me and i had to decide everything ... so because of that it was literally deal with things the easiest way .... which i knew wasnt always the best way ... but i had everything to deal with ... every decision to make so the easiest allowed me to be freed up for the next one

now that mr el is finally being involved it releases alot of the pressure off of me ... and allows me to concentrate more on improving things ... so i am no longer fire fighting ... i can now plan for the future ... i can look at all our options and discuss then with mr el and between us we can decide what it is we want ... that takes such a huge load off of my shoulders that i didnt even realise that i had as it has stayed there for so long and slowly ever so slowly got heavier over the years

Rich Dad, Poor Dad got me into house and hospitality exchanging and house sitting :) Also into using the rent a room scheme allowance - one of his tenets was that the capital in the house you live in is to a certain extent dead money, unless it can generate revenue, Ok in rising house prices it seems like it's gaining, but in real terms you still need somewhere to live, and you're still standing still in relative terms compared to house prices. Not read the Tim Ferris book, but probably it's the same that you need to 'cherry pick' the ideas that work for you.
