we went to visit "friends" last night ... now these people have always claimed to be incredibly great with money .... and i know they have struggled in the past but they scraped through it ( and i was delighted for them) ... so with this in mind i asked a few questions last night to see if i could learn anything ... no interest in being nosey ... it isnt my business it is theirs ... so i specifially said " dont give me exact figures please just ideas ... and explanations of what you are doing to suceed"

they live in a three bed detatched home that is lovely ... they have new windows kitchen bedrrom furniture etc etc ... their house is lovely ( much nicer than ours) and i am happy for them ... so having heard ( and also having been thinking) they are good with money i wanted to learn their secrect ... now i wont go into details as it isnt fair or right for me to do so ... but what i learned last night is that everyone has their own opinion as to how great they are with money ...

i feel like we sail close to the wind ... but after chatting to these people last night i feel that if we are sailing close to the wind ... they are skirting the outside of a storm with a sail you can spit peas through ... i was sitting scared for them ... but they seemed very happy and secure and confident that things are going brilliantly .... that gave me pause for thought and more determination to steer away from the wind into the calm where i dont even need a sail but can sit and sip pina coladas whilst eating peeled grapes ... if you get my drift

One of the classic profiling measures is how risk averse you are. I think it has a major impact on how 'close to the wind' people think they are.

Lots of current books don't seem to even look at this. But it is something I at least need to address, being over or under cautious can be just as bad in it's effect on achieving the best lifestyle for our life with all its facets.

your totally right see ... i read a bit about that last night in rich dad poor dad and thought similar ... you have to get the balance right in everything being either too much or too little can be just as equally damaging ....

    pause for thought

i really am learning about finances just now ... it's nothing new ... it's just understanding it finally ... the knowing why that is making the difference ... part of me wishes we had learned this years ago ... but maybe the time wasnt right ... maybe we had to have a strong equal marriage for it to be learned ... maybe becuase i was fire fighting for all these years i couldnt learn and now that i have (finally) a husband that actually wants to actively be a part of it ( as opposed to being an observer) maybe now i can learn and live in this new way of being ?

maybe i am just dreaming though lol lol lol

You have to be the right 'you' in the right place and time for things to work. Lots of things I'm doing now would have been totally wrong even 6 months ago, but being open to change opens the possibilities.

Having things "click" into place on the financial front is no different to those times when we are, for example, dieting......we know the theory, we know what we should do, we know the benefits of it, we make a "reasonable" attempt at it that produces an effect of sorts, but it is only when our head is totally in the right place that it actually works in the most efficient, most beneficial, and most long term way.

So it sounds like it has clicked for you right now, and that is a really good thing xx

your totally spot on both of you .... wish to hell my eating healthy would click into place now .... that one annoys me soooooo much ... it is exactly like you say hypno i know what i need to do etc i'm just waiting for it to cllick in to place

ohhh was just reading back ... i need to update ... have been brushing my hair fairly often but not every day ... i have been moisturizing my face every three days or so ... but i have been ensuring i have been putting moisturizer on ( which has an spf 25 in it) every time i go out as i have noticed i seem to have thread veins in my face ... looked them up and they are due to sun exposure ( i am known in the family as the pet vampire cause i dont do sun) and alcohol ( not drank in nearly 3 years) so i dont understand why i have them but i do ... so even if i am going out for ten mins in the winter sun i am now putting a spf on i think though when money allows me to i will get them treated as i dont like them

I looked at my own risk profile, something i did when i bought the book, 'Clear your mortgage in two years.' There is a section in there on it and questions to ask yourself..i think i came out at ..very cautious! So i have to work within that to see how i can be comfortable in generating the extra dosh needed.
I must admit the questioning does make me think.

    Hi Elantan

Hope you dont mind me popping in :)

Just had a flick through your diary, the 100 month part really made me think about how much quicker I could pay my mortgage off if I could have find an extra couple of hundred quid each month. Iprobably could with a few sacrificies:). Good luck with your journey and everything else going on, have seen you give lots of advice and support on other posts so just wanted to wish you luck :) x
