    Here it is....

It is from "Little House in the Big Woods", which is the first book in the series.

"After this was done, Ma began the work that belonged to that day. Each day had its own proper work. Ma used to say:
    'Wash on Monday,
    Iron on Tuesday,
    Mend on Wednesday,
    Churn on Thursday,
    Clean on Friday,
    Bake on Saturday,
    Rest on Sunday.'
Laura like the churning and the baking days best of all the week."

Having read the list of things that needed doing, including making all their own butter & cheese in the summer (to preserve some for the winter) and making and mending all their own clothes and hats, I am very glad that the modern day version of old-style is not quite as demanding as that sort of old style! And if Ma didn't make the cheese, the clothes, the preserved vegetables, etc... they would go without - there was no supermarket round the corner, and no credit card to pay if the money ran out!

Thanks, Punky :D That's what I'm doing - so far - kitchen, ironing, living room tidy, paperwork and post.

  • Morning everyone. I was hoping for a bit of a lie in this morning as it was quite a long day yesterday. Not much chance of that. Although the little monkey then fell asleep again when we got downstairs, so i'm sat here supping my go-go juice and revving up for the day.

I was quite proud of what got done yesterday. Admittedly mostly by DH while i was feeding the baby, but i was the director. I also made a spreadsheet with all my wish list of jobs on, and then made a daily and weekly routine, so today, my specific jobs are to:
    1) put a load in WM, and
    2) dust downstairs.
    i also need to
    3) clean toilet and sink ready for friend visiting tomorrow
    4) wash up from last night - not much as we had a takeaway (shhhhhh;) )
    5) deal with any post
    6) sweep up cat food in kitchen again - pain as it needs doing daily
    7) make a shepherds pie for tea
    8) make ginger cake
    9) retrieve bedding from TD, fold and put away
    10) do some ironing (although at the rate baby is going through clothes - there won't be any left to iron and they will all need washing again.)

    weekly targets:
    1) pick up travel cot from mums
    2) wash and iron clothes
    3) pack for weekend away
    4) organise weekend away
    5) drop cats off at cattery
    6) open DS a savings account
    7) sort out maternity clothes to pack away
    8) find out normal clothes
    9) sort thank you cards out for baby gifts we've had

    Good luck everyone!

I'm not sure if my sisters will do there normal visit on Mondays, so that will affect what i can get done. Otherwise i will try and do bits when i can, or when DH gets in from work.

The day is totally screwed. I didn't realise how much noise the carpet cleaner made so I've had to abandon that project until later as DH is on nights. I have no potatoes so I can't prepare the Shepherds Pie and I've checked my parcel delivery and nothing is coming today so I'm heading off into town instead to pay in some cheques.
