nope! that is the short answer. Unless you are both earning a good income and live within your means, and never got into debt before you met, and don't after you meet, then it is not easier, and nicer financially.

It has to be easier to share bills though like mortgage, electricity and council tax?

I think it totally depends on the individuals - my ex was worse with money that I was (and part of the reason I ended up in debt) as he was constantly living outside his means. My current OH has been in debt but worked really hard to clear it and has a much healthier attitude to money and staying debt free now.

It can work out cheaper to live with someone in terms of sharing the costs of bills etc. but again that depends on whether your incomes are equal, if you are both paying the same amount towards costs or maybe just similar proportions of your earnings. I know personally it works out a lot cheaper to house share than live on my own! My outgoings would double if I had my own place.

nope, not in our house. DH pays rent, and now council tax as I could no longer afford it, we live in an expensive borough and I pay for everything else.

In our more affluent years, he used to pay for all our nights out and holidays. oh, that was quite a few years ago!

I wish I hadn't experienced the good life because all I do is compare to how good it was before and how rubbish it is now... well actually I should shut up because compared to some it's not bad at all

Luckily for me I've never had a lot of money, so I can't miss it :rotfl:

I went from being a poor student with little debt, to a badly paid employee with moderate debt, to a slightly less crappily paid employee with quite a lot of debt!! It's pretty much kept me at the same level of 'free' money as it were for the past 10 years.... I can't wait til the end of this year when I'll be a full £300/month better off :D

So determined not to spend anything more on my card until the end of the month which will be very hard.

If I do that then out of my £1336 wage I will have paid off £200 capital off the mortgage and £450 of the card card/ground rent debt and the £193 off the loan.

This means I will have paid off £843 (63% of my wage!) off the debt!

    Good for you!

Hmm I have £60 in my purse + a tenner that's owed to my by OH.... wonder if i can stretch this out to last me til the end of the month?! I don't have any 'big nights out' or must-do activities for the rest of the month.

    Any tips?

Well I have enough food in the cupboards, enough petrol and will be cycling to work so if nothing goes wrong then I am all set.

However unlike you I have £1.60 in my wallet...8p a day :rotfl:

will you need any food? Or do you have enough stock until payday?
  • Lucy - I gave up smoking two years ago. Was on about 10 a day before that - roughly £2 a day wasted. I decided to give up as I could not have afforded to buy a house and pay the mortgage billls etc if I carried on. I just thought right lets see if I can go a day without smoking and if I can I will put £2 in a piggy bank. And, just did that every day for 3 months, never looking more than one day ahead. Every day, no ciggie, £2 to me! I've never smoked since (though by god I've been tempted, especially recently!).

Oh and I've been single for 5 years. Most of the time it doesn't bother me, I love being able to do what I want when I want, in my house on my own!

But I understand where you're coming from, recently I find myself really wishing I had someone to come home to/share things with (including bills lol!).
