Reply now received regarding less than half my shop compared.

"Unfortunately we can only compare comparable items that Asda and Tesco sell. These would be branded items like Heinz or Kelloggs"

is the main gist. I've replied asking why McCain, Napolina, Kelloggs crunchy nut and loose grapes are not comparable to Asda but Tesco value kiwi fruit pack and Tesco own label pork and sweet onion pate are.

Again awaiting a reply... truly think that it is false advertising if less than half the shop is compared.

For example, Napolina 1.5L, seems only to be available at Tesco:

Are you sure the products you bought including the details of weight could be bought at ASDA?

according to puddings list we should be buying sun lotion in huge quantities!!!

    Good luck trying.

I haven't been in store, but according to mysupermarket and tesco.com Nivea sun lotion is conveniently out stock. So if they can't match Asda's price then they can strip the shelves to stop people getting their DTD.

Even though "mysupermarket" claims to be an independent price checker, i think they are too heavily associated with asda for tesco to trust what they say, and i reckon that's why tesco have created their own price comparison site for their double difference scheme.

a good theory, but i ordered 17 different items (all off a list similar to the one above), and received 16 of them, only 1 was out of stock.

I notice Tesco have removed Easter Eggs from their price checker thing because Asda have them at £2, whereas Tesco have them at £6. So they just remove them from the list. They were definitely there yesterday.

I'm sure it's just the tip of the iceberg - I'd be amazed if anyone manages to get any money back from a 'standard' shop (i.e. not going for things where there are obvious differences).

Just damages their reputation even further for me.

Indeed. However they are still on the tesco and asda websites described as the identical product.

Does anyone know if they are still honouring the double the difference deal on easter eggs, even though it has been removed from their own price checker?

    That was my theory

    Hadn't thought of that one.

The advantages of using your own price checker. You can manipulate the figures to fit your requirements.

Shame such few people get to see this thread about how dishonest and manipulative tesco can be.

Luckily for them most people will no doubt continue to blindly shop at tesco, happy in the knowledge that tesco are the cheapest. - It must be true that's what all the signs, banners and other adverts are suggesting
