Thanks, it looks so big, its my large lasagne dish and I thought it was huge. Will have a go, but I might try a smaller dish. Thanks.0

It was me that used the pudding basin and it worked fine, lovely thick sponge with lots of fudgy chocolate underneath, but you might want to add slightly less water as I did have a bit spill over the sides during cooking!0

I was watching Nigel Slaters 'Chocolate' episode a couple of weeks ago, and Nigella made this very cake on the show - it was an old episode and was obviously before her tv career took off. But I had been scouring the recipe sites trying to find the very recipe and couldn't find it on Nigellas site, so am chuffed to bits that its been posted here.
Thanks Thriftlady. :TOnly 5% of those who can give blood, actually do!

I saw her make this too, I think she put eggs and chocolate in hers, and didn't she spike it with chili ?....maybe that was in one of her books.
My recipe is from a book called Cooking From Quilt Country by Marcia Adams. It's an American book of Amish and Mennonite recipes. I've adapted it slightly - I left out the pecans. This is the only recipe I've made from it ! I notice it says the recipe serves 8 ! - not in my house0 -
thriftlady - thanks for this, on the sugar question I used just under half a cup in the cake bit (all I had) and it turned out well. The trick may be to cut it down a little each time you make it till you get to a sweetness you are comfortable with.'If you have a garden and a library, you have everything you need' Marcus Tullius Cicero0

We had this recently and it was very nice. My only gripe was that the sauce (essentially just sugar, water and cocoa) was a bit 'cheap' tasting. I can't help wondering what this baby would be like with cream, milk or 'half and half' poured over it instead of water. Has anyone dared ?
Cheers...0 -
Ooh! I made this on Saturday and put it in the oven after a lovely roast dinner - then realised after 5-10 mins I forgot to put the sugar/cocoa mix and water on the top! I took it out and added them and then had to sit there for the next half an hour wondering if I had let everyone down as they were all quite excited! it tasted lovely luckily, and I have an excuse to make it again to see if it will turn out even more gorgeous, lol!

Thanks Thriftlady. :T
Just wanted to say that I made the Nigella version a couple of weeks ago mentioned by Frizz-head for some dinner party and it was absolutely divine - guests couldn't stop praising it. Nigella's version is a called Chilli-Cinnamon chocolate pudding from her "Feast" book and yes it really uses chilli powder which brings out the chocolate flavour. She does say that for children you could/should leave out the chiilli and the dark rum though! I left out the rum but still added most of the chilli and it was so easy to makle! If anybody wants the recipe I can pm them since it is not on her website..... I will have a go at Thriftladys one to see the diffence (it sounds very good too) but the one I made is def winner with my entire family - including 5 year old and 2 year old DDs!
