I've just had a go at making this. I didn't have muscaado sugar for the top so tried it with the demerara. Was still nice but husband complained it wasn't fudgy enough. Also said it wasn't chocolatey enough(?!). I used cadbury's drinking choc and presumed it was the same as cocoa powder? Is it?
Anyhoo - I thought it was nice - and son is currently tucking into a bowl. Would cook it for a wee bit longer next time so that I get more sponge - found I had more sauce than I thought I would.
Thanks Thriftlady!0 -
Just made this and it was delicious!!!! DS had 2 bowlfulls!!!!
I did use brown sugar and cocoa powder, and it was all fine, i would say with drinking chocolate, you would need a few more tablespoons of it, and maybe a little less sugar (in the cakey bit) to even it out.0 -
Drinking chocolate is not the same as cocoa. It has sugar added and probably other stuff too. Cocoa is just cocoa and will make for a chocolatier (is that a word?) taste.0

I had a day at home today as little one was ill, so made the most of it and had baking day. I made this pud this afternoon.
Was very sceptical about pouring boiling water over it!! WOWEEEEEE, it was delicious! Me and kids had it for pudding tonight, warmed though, with custard and it was fabulous!! Thanks for the recipie!0 -
Many many yrs ago (although I seem to feel it was only yesterday) I used this recipe to make a good gooey choccie pudding, which was kinda upside down and saucy .....
For yrs subsequently, I've been trying to find the recipe again ... this sounds like the one .... (I have so bored my DH wittering on about finding said receipt!)
OMG I have to make it ..... I know what we're having for pud over the w/e!!!!!
THANK YOU!!!!!!GC - March 2024 -0 -

Hi, yet another question, is the measurement of the dish in inches whicj I thought it was or cms? It just seems large for the amounts of ingredients used.
Told hubby I had bought ingredients to make soon, he came home with the cream saying he knew it was presumptious but he needs me to make this :rotfl:0 -
I have made a version of this from a McDougalls recipe book and the only difference was you mixed up the boiling water, sugar and cocoa powder first...THEN poured it over the top and DID NOT STIR!!!!!!
It has the same effect and so I thought it may be useful for people getting powdery puds:D
(Edited as I thought it was Stork but that is the sprinkly powder recipe, McDougalls is the mix it up beforehand recipe and its done in microwave and also strangely has 1 egg but we know we don't need it!!!)Laughing at my ancient signature...voodoobaby now 10 years old:eek:0 -
