Accepting paypal for a car is asking for trouble,
Pay via paypal, go pickup car, wait a few days claim to paypal item not received.
Do you have proof of delivery ? if not fullr efund to the buyer as paypal are useless :p

Then the seller must take all steps to ensure they can prove delivery. A signed receipt and a photocopy of the buyer's driving licence should suffice. Or perhaps a video of them driving it away.
The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark

The only thing paypal accept is a tracking number from the PO/courier. No other proof is acceptable.

That's why paypal is such a bad idea for car payment.

I'm pretty sure PayPal don't expect cars to be delivered by the Royal Mail, Hermes or The Home Delivery Network. They surely have procedures to cover collected items.

    No, they don't.
Paypal delivery has to be by a trackable method.
That's why cars were a good scam.

But the raison detre of this site is to help consumers, not retailers/sellers. ;)

In my opinion it is to inform people of how not to waste money and if a private seller, ie, one of us asks how to safely sell a car, we should comment from his end not a potential buyer who may be a risk to his finances. Remember there are bogus buyers as well as bogus sellers on ebay. He needs to be made aware and that's what everyone here is trying to do;)
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed

Thanks everyone for the advice. I am definitely going to insist in cash and check the notes carefully. But for your info, Ebay did require me to allow Paypal. The car now has 33 watchers and I really hope there are some serious buyers among them.

For your info, you have been mislead!

This is from ebay regarding paypal:
eBay requires all sellers listing on eBay.co.uk and eBay.ie to accept PayPal in their listings with the exception of listings in the categories of cars, motorcycles, aircraft, boats, caravans, trailers, trucks (commercials), services and property categories

Maybe you should alter your listing?

What is the best day and time for the auction to close?

To go back to your OP.

If you watch car auctions on ebay, all the action takes place during the last couple of minutes when 2 or more bidders are interested and do active bidding.

To set your auction to end at 1.00 in the morning was not a good idea!

Maybe you might want to stop it and start all over again, also removing paypal as the payment method required!

Oh no. That was stupid, wasn't it? I wish I could edit the closing time but it won't let me. Don't people use the feature of setting the highest price they're prepared to pay and letting it work automatically?

I don't want to stop it and start again as I want the car gone by 1 March so I don't have to renew the insurance.

You would think so wouldn't you, but people are funny creatures. and they don't like entrusting themselves to the automatic bidding. If they do, they will put a conservative max bid and see if they get lucky. But many like to see what happens in the final minutes and take part in the process manually, it's more exciting that way and they will be more likely to go above their max - which they probably have put in earlier. Of course, they may not have time to squeeze in the extra bid.
