Our schools are off for another week up here. It's hard to have NSD with 3 children in tow! It's not that warm in the north east today so 2 of mine are inside watching Dr Who and the other has gone to his friends house while DH and me garden (or I will when I get off MSE!) so will have a NSD today!!0

Today for me:
- neighbours lent us their pressure washer and water to wash the car (saving £5 :money: at the car wash and saving ££ as we are on metered water and they are not)
- persuaded DH to join me in eating another packet of horrid microwave rice (don't buy Uncle Bens wholegrain microwave rice unless you like rice that tastes like you scraped it off the floor  I got it originally for camping with as it only needs heating through but it is just grim
) so we are having horrid rice with quorn fish fingers for lunch so I am not hungry when I shop
- banked some more cravendale codes - got a lovely PM from a forummite with some spare codes so I only need 2 more bottles now for cannister 2. I might make the set of 3 after all :j
- checked my shopping on mysupermarket and decided what to get where before setting off. I think it has the Waitrose offers wrong as 2 things were on offer at the "ocado" tab but not in store at Waitrose
- not a total loss tho as they gave me the reduction on one item anyway - and let me buy several of them as I'd brought them to the till with my shopping!
- got a free toblerone from the grabbit board, printed my voucher and used the coupon at MrA whilst getting my shopping
A speedy freebie
- was a bit naughty and used my "faulty" innocent coupon (the barcode on them scans as a £6.50 mag instead of £2.99 off a drink). MrA staff gave me a free £2.50 smoothie for it :T This means I still have the replacement working coupon that innocent sent out, ready to use on another occasion
- came home and scanned all my shopping in - Waitrose reductions are a nightmare as their reduction stickers don't come off! I had to work out which bits were the numbers as opposed to the reduction price and type them all in by hand
- Turned down the offer of meeting DH and his friends in the pub for dinner - I will eat reduced treats and come on here with my friends and save about £10 instead

A NSD here too, which is probably a good job. I spend too much too often.
Busy though. DH dug out a boring green shrubbery border for me, and we have replaced it with 9 raspberry canes and 3 rhubarb crowns. Since we had access to the fence, nextdoor sent some paint over and DH painted our side of their fence for them. It looks loads better.
We need to buy some canes and garden wire though for the canes to climb up, but that will be another day now.
NDN's also gave us some packets of seed they didn't want as they struggle to grow from seed, but i will give back some of our produce when it starts to grow.
Other than that, food has been eating up bread buns and salad from the BBQ yesterday, and the leftover pork burgers i am going to chop up and do with leftover roasted veg, a tin of tomatoes and some pasta later.0 -

I think i scaled to new money saving heights. The water butt is now virtually empty after the prolonged dry spell. The thunderstorm on Saturday was too brief to refill them. I was running up and down the stairs after the kids bath with water from the bath to fill the watering can and put in the butt.
Think we got about 5.5 litres, which is better than a kick in the teeth when you are on a meter. Will try and get some more later on when i have a shower.
The things you do eh? :rotfl:0 -

I do find it hard to strike a balance between saving hard and being able to enjoy ourselves, especially as the children are small.
I sometimes feel like this too, and there's a similar discussion on Newgirly's thread. I think children enjoy doing simple things with their families. My niece can't remember going to Disneyland 6 years ago (£6000) but can recall all the family days out with simple picnics and ball games etc... Children don't know the value of money and won't enjoy something more just because it cost more money.0 -

Leftovers for tea and chocolate cake made with DD2
Started to re-use a bucket outside the kitchen door again to pour waste water into for the plants. I can fill my washing up bowl to the brim before I get any hot water from the tap. Also poured in the water from my boiled eggs at lunchtime.0 -
I've done a huge shop where I can make my lunch for the week ahead - which is only a few days. Can't complain. Planning a minimal spend for the rest of the week. Popped around my neighbours for a cup of tea and a chat this pm rather than going to the cinema - does that count?!Feb 2012 - onwards MF achieved
