Sorry to hear about your househunting woes, vesper. You must feel really p***ed off - I know I would. :grouphug::grouphug:0

Good afternoon everyone isn't this bit of sunshine wonderful?
Had to take the car for it's MOT today and walked back through the fields after dropping it off. Birds were singing their little heads off and looking at the bushes and trees loads of them have buds ready to explode at the first chance. The only downside was wherever I walk now there are building sites swallowing up our precious fields. This town was scarcely more than a village when I was a kid but now it's spilling out in all directions eating up the countryside so fast it scares me.
Given we accept that times are really tough and a lot of us think it will get a hell of a lot worse before it gets better I can't work out where the developers think all the occupants for these houses will come from. Maybe it's like in Vespers case and they are for buy to let. So frustrating for you Vesper to keep getting outbid after laying money out.
Congrats Lauren
Enjoy the sunshine everyone0 -
Incidentally, sorry to hear about your neighbour
It makes you feel so helpless when you hear stuff like that going on and no-one seems to take any notice, doesn't it? But good for you for reporting it. :T My dad's friend resigned from the RSPCA in the sixties after they received a call that a puppy had been kicked across a back yard - one of their chaps went to investigate and the bloke that answered the door knocked him down. So he came back with a policeman and they went into the house where they found a little child, black and blue. The child later died in hospital from his injuries. The neighbour who had reported the man kicking the puppy said oh yes, she'd often seen the man hitting the child, but he was his father so that was none of her business
That's terrible. I'd like to think that that attitude would be very rare now though - most people would recognise it as wrong nowadays. There's a very strong link between animal and child abuse - one often leads to the other, unfortunately...Skint but happy with my lovely family

Hopefully this attitude is rare now.... although it does still happen and I worry that as times get tougher there will be an increase in situations similar to that above.
Vesper, sorry to hear about the house it so unfair what this person is doing and I feel wrong on the part of the home owners."Let your boat of life be light, pack only what you need- A homely home and simple pleasures, one or two friends worth the name, someone to love and someone who loves you, a cat, a dog, a pipe or two enough to eat, enough to wear and a little more than enough to drink, as thirst is a dangerous thing" Jerome k. Went to local charity shop yesterday and got a huge pyrex/ glass dish that was perfect for the home made apple pie last night and only cost one pound. Also made carrot and coriander soup and sausageinnabun!!! Everyone wolfed it down so very pleased.
DH has had the leftover green thai chicken curry for a late lunch and youngest DD has been made pancakes (heart and star shaped as I got the silicone moulds from Aldi last week.
We have chicken and mushrooms to use up so trying to decide between using it for pasta bake or a pie tonight. DDs birthday is on Sunday and her older sister is coming home for the weekend so quite excited:j
Still have some wrapping to do but most things are done.
Money is going out faster than we thought but it is all for sensible things that we need and will use (plumbing, electrics, heating - new door knobs so we don't get trapped)
Can't wait to get things finished so we know where we stand. We have been here six months now and there are still weird things cropping up that previous owner has done! GrHH!!"This site is addictive!"

Afternoon all.
Half day today as our office has a wiring problem so they sent us home.
I hope they are still going to pay you? No-one wants to lose half a days pay when it's not their fault.

Yeah they will pay us. We all work hard for our boss so he's happy to pay us at times like this. :A0 -
I have asked the Freecycle Fairy for a small slow cooker this morning and am about to run home to check my Yahoo account to see if I am the lucky recipient. Can't access the freebie email sites from the work computers. Wish me luck!

hi there,
Not posted on this thread before, more of a lurker/reader, but just to say I will continue to read and might even post (;)).
Today DS was at nursery but after our treat lunch (cheap filled rolls, a shared kit-kat and juice from local garage eaten overlooking the Pentland Firth- wild and calm at the same time today!), we went to local Red X, and for £2.40 managed to get: a polo neck for DS, a shirt for DS, a book for me (Anita Shreve one I have not read), a stencil for DS, a knitting pattern for me, a spiderman plate for DS, and a lot of buttons for me! Pretty pleased with that, and DS loves playing with the toys in there and chatting to whoever will listen!
Also got our leccie statement a couple of days ago, I was concerned we would be loads in debit seeing as it has been so cold up here, but we are actually only £17 in debit so pleased with that for a winter statement. We also got our free loft insulation last week so hoping that will help with future bills!
Anyway sorry if this is a waffly first post, promise to try to stick to what we are supposed to be sticking too lol!
