No specific advice but something similar happened to me a few months ago. One of mechanics reversed off ramp and into wall or something damaging the car

Luckily boss was there and knew it had happened. Cue very embarrassed phonecall to give us the news.... they repaired and replaced everything good as new without any prompting. If he hadn't been around the mechanics may well have tried the 'hide it' technique...

Go in and have chat with the boss. You may well be pleasantly surprised at how nicely they handle it, we were

Instead of bickering like schoolkids maybe we should be busy getting ready for the next round of petrol and price rises when the oil goes up again ? They are saying it will hit £1.40 in the next few weeks. Re Libya it doesnt look like things will settle anytime soon, with nobody capable of taking control, so the oil might not be back on stream any time soon.

    Evening all!

Hoping someone can point me in the right direction, or knows the answer to this! Friend was handed a pretty scratty letter at work last night, saying that as from Monday hours and pay will be cut by 50%. He has a contract, has worked there for 2yrs, and is required to give 4 weeks notice if he decided to leave. CAB was closed at lunchtime when he tried to visit! Can anyone tell me if this is legal, or suggest where to look please?

Just seems incredibly unfair, he isn't the only one, it has happened to all the employees!

Many thanks for any info though!

As far as my coping goes, I have today stockpiled a few chickens in the freezer, M&S have a £5 offer for a chook and a cherry or apple pie. Also bought some of the mince in there, at £4 per kg it is a bargain, and always good quality. Freezers are now looking full to bursting, and I feel at least foodwise we will be prepared if things get worse! And at the end of the day so long as we have a roof over our heads and are fed then we will be fine! Other than that I did buy some shoes in the sales, they are beautiful, and whilst not necessary they have made me smile a lot, and sometimes it's the small things that keep us going!

Time for a cuppa and a catch up now, and waiting for bolognese to cool in the SC, so can then portion up and freeze it - how on earth can such a small amount of mince create dinner and a vast amount of leftovers, oh the joys of oats and lentils lol!

Thanks everybody I'll go first thing in the morning and see what happens.
  • mummysaver there is an employment board further up the forum index. Sometimes they can be a bit scathing but if your enquiry is genuine they can be very helpful, I recommend you give it a try. xx

You have given me an idea! After 10 days of the Fat Knacker eating all the Old Blind Boys food, she needs to go on a diet :D
  • mummysaver exactly that happened to dh when we were a young family, about 30 years ago. Pay was halved one day with one weeks notice and hours remained the same. The co had to do it to keep everyone in work. Was a very hard time and I got a job then going door to door cold calling for appointments for insurance salesman, was a job from hell. Dh got an evening bar job on evenings I wasn`t working. It was very very hard to keep heads above water but we did and it made us stronger and taught us valuable lessons

Many thanks will go have a look on recommended board! Hopefully I will remain unscathed!

Kittie - have told friend that we will always squeeze him into our madhouse if necessary, think that will prob spur him on to find another job very quickly lol! But I would never see a friend struggle if I could help, so we may have a temporary lodger!
