Thanks for the advice about my parents not having told me things. They are like that about everything though and this has led to a rather strained relationship with them these days.
We have one of those rare yellow things in the sky too. Thought today would be a nice day for me as partner at home for a very very rare day off and the second house viewing this afternoon. Now its all gone to pot. Got the surveys back on the house this morning and apart from a few bits of work that were pretty easy to sort and redecorating everything it wasn't in bad nick. So we were already to proceed and get started with the contracts. Then booom, the EA rings up, a cash buying has gone in with a higher bid than us. Even worse the person that outbid us is the person that had gazzumped us on the last house we were buying. She just buys up everything thats affordable around here for cash and rents them out. This is the reason why hardly anything comes up for sale as she already owns around 50 houses around here that she rents out. I am fuming!!! It now means that there is pretty much no chance of us buying a house around here as they are now all above our budget.
All I want to do is cry right now, it's so demoralising. That's two lots of surveys that have gone down the drain!

Sorry to hear that - both re non-supportive parents:( and losing your shoulda been house-to-be to someone who just wants to make an income from it. That is bad news indeed....just have to keep fingers crossed for better news soon for you..

Would it be at all worth contacting this landlady and "appealing to her better nature" to give you a chance at a home? The older I get the more cynical I get about a sizeable portion of the human race not HAVING a "better nature"...but you never know...maybe it hasnt occurred to her that she's just "stepped on someone's toes" as regards getting a little home for themselves? Well - you've got nothing to lose...so is it worth considering?

oh gosh, I can`t keep up. Vesper your post about that house really made me upset for you. I cannot understand why these greedy people want more and more and pity help anyone who gets in the way. Look on it as fate and maybe it wasn`t meant to be, anyway I hope she gets a good dose of her own karma with knobs on

It has been such a busy but pleasurable day today, starting with a bit of pricking out and potting, then hanging washing, then lunch then allotment for hours. Well I went for half and hour and ended up staying all afternoon. I have so many seedlings and plants out back now and I am in and out like a yoyo

I see that we are forecast another dry summer so I am making preparations now as watering was hard work last year. I bought quite a few water spikes and just had an order from AF with loads of drinks bottles which will fit on the top of the spikes. I also got several items in nice jars as I want the jars for preserves, much cheaper collecting the jars this way. I digress, I have put a layer of small gravel or pebbles on the surface of large pots and have got myself organised re cardboard mulch. Also the water butts, I have 2 linked together and put ceramic rings in one last year, the water is crystal clear but the ceramic rings were pricey. I bought some this week from a seller on amazon, ceramic filter rings for fish, 500g for just under £6. I put a handful in a mesh bag for washing powder tabs, tied it up and dropped it into the smaller butt. Got loads left to give away to family and friends

Incidentally, sorry to hear about your neighbour :( It makes you feel so helpless when you hear stuff like that going on and no-one seems to take any notice, doesn't it? But good for you for reporting it. :T My dad's friend resigned from the RSPCA in the sixties after they received a call that a puppy had been kicked across a back yard - one of their chaps went to investigate and the bloke that answered the door knocked him down. So he came back with a policeman and they went into the house where they found a little child, black and blue. The child later died in hospital from his injuries. The neighbour who had reported the man kicking the puppy said oh yes, she'd often seen the man hitting the child, but he was his father so that was none of her business

flowertotmum, know it sounds awful but I am glad that your neighbour has been sectioned - probably best for all concerned, including her. Hopefully you will feel a bit less worried now!

Ye gods! Whatever sorta neighbour was that? How can anyone stand by and see either a child or an animal mistreated?. She ought to think shame on herself for letting the man act like this and telling herself it was none of her business. What planet do some people live on indeed?

I started the day in Depression Mode today - having seen a woman struggling to wheel herself up a slight incline in one of those manual wheelchairs - whilst a man looked on heedlessly nearby:eek:. I was just heading towards her thinking "This woman is about to shame you - I'LL darn well push her wheelchair up the slope, though I'm a woman and I hope you feel ashamed of yourself for not doing so - even though you are a man" when another woman literally raced across to the woman in the wheelchair and pushed her up instead. The man didnt bat an eyelid - but at least the woman who raced over to her in front of me did her good deed for the day (and incidentally set a very good example to her 2 young children with her - so bl**dy good on her for that:T).

What a day, i'm absolutely shattered, loads of kids turned up. My sister and her three nippers case too, she couldn't believe how much the kids shouted and followed e about. So hardly saw her as i was running about all over the house.

The house is wrecked, streamers everywhere, but bit went really well. Got a shock has hardly any cakes got eaten, but nearly all the savoury went.

Oh and i take it back, the nuggets were all chicken breast, very tasty, one of the kids shoved half a one in my mouth. So definitely well worth the money. So if you nuggets buy the halal one, they like the ones in the supermarket.

Art, trust me, over prepare on the savoury food, i ended up making another four lots of sandwiches. Hardly any biscuits were eaten, as for the cakes , i've still got loads left.

    We had:

    egg mayo sandwiches
    tuna mayo
    cheese (grated) and cubed
    cucumber sticks
    cashew nuts
    crisps
    cheese pasties
    chicken nuggets
    sausages chopped up
    jam tarts
    chocolate cake
    fairy cakes
    twinks
    various biscuits
    chocolate fingers
ice cream (no one wanted any:eek:)
    flapjacks
    fruit
    quiche
    salad

    lemonade
    juices

So yeah the above was enough, but i think on reflection i needed at least another kilo of chicken. I was going to do pizza but in the end i left it.

    HTH

Just tried to stand up and my legs wouldn't move, so OH is making the teas. He was left out of the rushing about as they forgot his name !!!:rotfl: Which he loved as got to scoff loads of food lol

Good God, stop all this petty behaviour and bloody well grow up!

Right, PP and C, in relation to the sick pay they have worded the contracts well. "at the partners discretion". It is just that the partners have never exorcised this right before. Not a law firm but a bean counting one, a small one. I think I am pretty much over a barrell but needless to say, through no fault of my own, it became common knowledge I had been put on SSP. Not that I particularly care. It has made me just take a long look at protecting myself in the future.

Help need a bit of advice here

Took my car for its MOT today and went to pick it up just before they closed. Did think when I got there they'd parked it in an odd place but assumed they'd been pushed for space.

Anyway paid went home and then realised they had damaged the wing. (parked in such a way I probably wouldn't notice damage immediately)

Now wondering how to handle this. tried to ring them straight away of course but it was shut.

Boss wasn't there when I collected my car so he may not know it has been damaged. I have used this garage for years (20+) so it may be that knowing me as he does I won't have any problems and he'll agree to get it fixed but what if they all deny having done it and he believes them? Would prefer to have plan of action ready just in case.

    Thinking caps on please.

Ma - take a photo of the damage as the date and time will be on the photograph. The other thing is how much damage has it caused? You need to remember that in this day and age he needs your custom and a 20 year customer is a big one to lose. He will probably be concerned as to how many others you will take with you.

Have a chat and see what he says. Good luck

What a lousy piece of luck, Ma L! However, if you have been with this garage for 20 odd years then you will have built up a relationship with them, surely? They must know you to be a good customer! In your shoes I would drive round there and speak to the boss - the big cheese, the head honcho himself, the organ grinder, not the monkey! Be pleasant and civil but express your disappointment and sadness at finding your car in such a state when it was left in their "capable" hands on trust. Emphasise how disappointed you are as you have always had excellent service from them in the past, and how this is a big inconvenience to you. If the boss is any decent sort, then he/she will apologise and get it fixed pronto. Fingers crossed!
