İn turkey they have a yearly compulsory state charge like road tax which every car has to have and it gives basic insurance cover--thus avoiding un-insured cars. if you want fully comp it rates out about 400 quid on a new family car(12k)--you insure the car not the drivers--turkey is much more dangerous than the uk so someone is making money from such high premimums(or something is going wrong!?)

£1250???????????????? I thought my last renewal for £468 was bad! What kind of car is it. goodness, my OH has only been driving for three years, but the two cars cost us about £1000 to insure this year. No wonder you're demented, that's almost as much as my Council Tax bill!

    Hi all

We've been trying to drive down our grocery bill and got back into the habit of hunting for whoopsies. Last night DH triumphantly brought home a kilo of bananas for 20p! Cue furious searching for banana-based recipes in my recipe book collection and on here. Have made a spiced banana loaf from hummingbird bakery book but I have now run out of eggs and only used 3 out of 11 bananas. Just found banana muffin recipe in the index with no eggs in, so will make that aswell and then perhaps freeze the rest for future baking use so they will not be wasted. DH did the same last week with pears - 20p per bag so he brought home 3 bags! Pear wine is on the go and I made crumble with the ones which weren't edible as they were.

Small consumer victory with L!dl today. I bought walking shoes from there about 2 weeks ago. I tried them on at home, found them to be too narrow and wanted to return them. Unfortunately I lost the receipt (but I had paid on a debit card and could prove the transaction that way). I knew I didn't really have a leg to stand on but I asked nicely if I could have a have a credit note or similar (wasn't expecting a refund). Manager said I would have to contact customer services. Anyway I got straight through to a real person at CS and they were extremely polite but said that with no receipt there could be no refund/exchange. She offered to put it through as a complaint and I would receive a letter in the post. Anyway this morning I received a lovely letter to say that on this occasion they would offer a full refund. I am so impressed with how this was handled - top notch service from L!dl and I am unexpectedly €12 better off!

Afternoon all. I have been missing from here for a few weeks, so have just skimmed the last 10 pages - the ones with the difference of opinion on. There are a couple of posters on here who annoy me enough that I just skip straight past their posts - I used to love this thread and their posts spoilt it for me - so now I don't read them and I feel much better! :D

My dad died at the end of March. He was 61. At the moment his cause of death is still unknown and therefore we have no release of body and can't set a date for the funeral. I have spent this week clearing his flat of 'stuff'. As far as I am concerned there are bigger issues than me disagreeing with people.

  • I am really sorry to hear about your dad greent. It must be difficult having to wait so long for answers before you can lay him to rest. Hope you are coping as well as can be expected xxxx

So sorry to hear of your loss greent. My husband lost his father five years ago in similar sounding circumstances, and the eight week wait for answers was interminable for him, and the rest of the family. I will be thinking of you.x

We found that when I was trying to get insurance on DH's new car. I was getting quotes of £800 to nearly £2000 per annum and that was paying it all up front and not monthly  Monthly they added around 18% plus their fees. The old car was £500 per annum. So when I spoke to 1 insurer who were the cheapest I asked how much extra it would be to add me as a learner driver, the monthly payments came down from £120+ a month to £86 per month, go figure. So although I am not planning on learning I am getting myself a provisional license.

I'm sorry to hear about your Father, greent. My father-in-law died last year-in hospital- but we had a long wait too.I know that the authorities are being extra careful since Dr Shipman but not being able to settle a date for the funeral just adds to the stress.

My Ds has come up trumps again for us. With the massive cut in income we have had due to becoming a statistic in the government cutbacks I couldn't afford my mobile anymore. I know its a luxury but I really need it to keep in contact with my Mum who rings me 5 or 6 times a day and for Ds when she needs me to pick Dgs up urgently. Also Oh wanders off in his wheelchair in garden centres etc and I panic in case he has collapsed int he loo ( has done several times) So Ds rang Orange yesterday and not only got me a 10 pound reduction which was increased to 12.50 she got me a new phone!

I have a respite day today Oh has gone fishing with his disabled friend and a carer, I really need a bit of space today to get my brain in gear and tackle some of the money issues we have without Oh getting stressed.

Wishing peace to those who need it and hugs to all.
