Well am now exhausted another day of packing (and I hate it!!) sorted problem of cabinet - dad took its lid off and DS12 dangled in to get items out (its almost five foot tall) then as a shelf was emptied they carefully hooked it out and cleared next shelf - thankfully i was out, as I would have had a nervous breakdown. It houses all our valuables - both monetary wise and emotional - the hm flowers from my wedding cake sit next to the antique coffee set my grandad left me, which is next to the candle holder DS7 made in nursery so I would have been very upset to lose any of it.
The cabinet will now be sent off to charity shop for sale as we cant take it with us - it wont get into the new house (living room upstairs) which leaves the dilemma as to where I will store all the stuff from it in the new place, thinking of visiting a few CS to see if any have a small display cabinet to keep everything in.0 -
Hello folks, I've not posted for AGES but have been reading emailed subscribed threads; hence my only just finding this particular thread! I recently suffered the very upsetting process of the new, more severe, disability assessment - I was one of the 'guinea pig' subjects. Not surprisingly, I was found capable of working, thrown off Incapacity Benefit and was not offered ANY further assistance, despite being unable to work for several years previously.
So, I'm currently waiting for my appeal to be heard and I feel unable to claim JSA because of my health problems, so our small household now has to manage on just over £100 less per week. This thread (along with others I'm subscribed to) will be invaluable to me. Now all I have to do is start at page 1 and work my way through to the end! (Honestly - 175 pages in two months!)0 -
Well Betony I can actually say I know how you feel
We had our benefits cut 2 weeks ago and I am now an unpaid carer as Oh only qualified for lowest rate care. Oh is really upset and worried sick. We have asked them to re - consider and despite the reports from all his doctors they decided he doesnt need anything but someone to cook for him. I wont go into what that means to us I am sure you can all guess - its not just the money!
thats the reason I am trying so hard with my task to be O/S and as self sufficient as possible. I made peanut brittle tonight - its really addictive:p 1 Cup of sugar warmed till liquid (be careful it burns very easily) then add 1 1/3 cups of crushed salted peanuts - I used 30p ones from Mr T - mix pour on a bit of greaseproof in a tin and Bobs your auntie. Be careful hot sugar is dangerous.Clearing the junk to travel light

This govt is a bloody disgrace and I hope they get what they deserve. In one way or another I hope they get theirs. Taking money off poor people who have a hard enough struggle with life while at the same time handing out billions in foreign aid. Monkeys in the zoo could run the country better.
My DIL went yesterday for her ESA medical. She had a massive heart attack (at 41)and arrested twice, then got a collapsed lung, and is now diagnosed terminally ill with pulmonary fibosis. But she can move her arms & legs and speak so no doubt they will say shes fit to work
Off to look for the voodoo kit. Again.0 -
I am worried for a couple of people I know on DLA, and not so much for another few, who I know are at it. No doubt they will be the ones who get to stay on it  I absolutely agree with you re the foreign aid Mardatha, I agree with it in principle, but I strongly disagree with them upping the budget for it when the country is in recession and they are cutting these essential benefits and services! As for DIL, I have my fingers crossed for her, we have discussed this before and you know my feelings on that. xIt's what is inside your head that matters in life - not what's outside your windowEvery worthwhile accomplishment, big or little, has its stages of drudgery and triumph; a beginning, a struggle and a victory. - Ghandi0

I've been thinking about this post - and I still dont get where this comment is coming from??
Before I burn out a few braincells thinking "What does she mean?" - are you saying that "Maybe he is mentally ill - and therefore needs to be living in a set-up specifically designed for helping people with mental illness?"
I guess the other possibility might be - "Are you saying that perhaps he has a social worker assigned to him and they might be able to talk sense into him and explain that, for the sake of his own mental health, he needs to make sure that he becomes a good tenant and therefore not at risk of losing his home?"
Would be glad if you could explain the point being made here - as its just gone totally over my head...(maybe GreyQueen can see what you mean - but I cant...).0 -
Had a small panic yesterday as felt quite strong Braxton Hicks and realised I hadn't even thought about packing a hospital bag so that is something I must do today.
Have in-laws unexpectantly coming to visit today and as much as I love them I wasn't expecting them until tomorrow and this has really thrown me. The house is a state and I had to rearrange several things which is a real pain. Ah well I've not seen them since Christmas. Another very tiring day ahead as I usually lie down for a few hours in the afternoon and will not be able to today. No food in the house as my delivery is at 7pm tonight with the stuff for tomorrow's visit in it so no idea what they're going to eat. My little girl and I have scrambled egg and beans on toast but as I only have 3 eggs and half a tin left that is not going to stretch to another 2 adults!
I actually listed 35 items on ebay the other day and 20 of them have bids on already. They were items of clothing that my daughter had grown out of and although the starting price was 99p I just need to get rid of them so if the all sell that's still £35 I didn't have before. Hopefully some will go up in price as they have quite a few watchers - one item has 23 watchers!
Right must at least clear a pathway into the front room so they can at least sit down on the sofa which for once is clear!'Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering.'

Jedi Teacher, I hope youy manage to get a bit of rest.
My house is a mess and it's only week one of the Easter holidays. I have spent the morning ironing. I now have the pleasure of putting it all away. Which means I need to go into the boys rooms.Next week I am joining the flylady thread. I need to get the house in some order. Then perhaps I can spend time on my garden without feeling guilty. DH is working crazy hours and the last thing he needs is to come home to this mess. My eldest son is driving me to distraction. I am taking a break before I go up and find out exactly when he plans to start his revision today. Sorry for whinging but sometimes living in a house with 5 males gets a bit overwhelming. The younger 2 boys are going to France for a week with friends on Monday. I am going to gut their room.
It is overcast here but not cold. I plan to get out in the garden later if I finish my to do list. My potato plants are coming on a treat. I need to water them and then cover them with more compost. I am going to video the garden so I have a reacord of it before my polyculture garden springs up. My vegetable plants arrive tomorrow. I will store them in my growhouse until I am sure we are frost free. There will be kohlrabi plants in the box. I had to Google it. It looks really weird, like a veg from out of space.
Watched some of Superscrimpers last night. I have been pondering if I could manage a No spend week. At the moment I can't even a no spend day. I have tried different ways of doing my grocery shopping. I haven't quite cracked it yet. Scratching my head trying to figure out what food prices have gone down.GC 2011 Feb £626.89/£450 NSD3/7 March £531.26/£450 April £495.99/£500 NSD 0/7 May £502.79/£500

westcoastscot is the only one who can say exactly where his/her comment was coming from.
I took it at face value. Maybe the neighbour has a mental health issue or learning diability, and that is the root cause of his behaviour - rather than being anti-social for the sake of being anti-social.
The effect of his behaviour on his neighbours is still the same; he needs to change the way he behaves.
However, if the neighbour does have a mental health issue, or a learning disability, there might be more understanding of his position. Also, the use of the phrase "idiot boy" would become extremely uncomfortable.
I am another who is aghast at the amount of detailed - potentially identifying - information which is being shared about this case on a public site. Please take care, people. (Says the woman who has just deleted a long - potentially identifying - story about a case where a 'neighbour from hell' was actually suffering from the onset of a mental illness).
