cat I never found that a walk helped me with the BD as I didn't want to be near other people
I find baking really therapeutic, especially kneading bread.

Speaking of books, has anyone read The Hovel in the Hills? There's a sister book to it called The Hovel in the Hills Cookbook (or summat similiar). I don't recall the author off the top of my head but I'm sure it's on one of the bookselling websites. Anyway, its written by this woman who left office life in 1970s Bristol and moved to a tumbledown cottage in the mountains of North Wales with her OH. They're lovely books; they were desperately hard-up and had to live very simply, very OS. I think they'd be right up our street.
Yes, I've got that book - Kitchen in the Hills by Elizabeth West. Brilliant! Definitely an OS type of book:)0 -

Problem there is trying to lose weight and DH away this weekend. He's still working his way through my pecan tart.
No, don't really want to be around other people. I tend to turn into a hermit at times like these. Can go for days without speaking to anyone other than the dog. Going to make this meeting today very hard. Really want to cancel, but need the work.GC Mar 13 £47.36/£1500 -
It isn't good to hide away either though, Make some bread for the freezer
OR clean your windows, I did my kitchen windows last night, and have just done my livingroom windows, and it has put a huge smile on my face.

Re food inflation, some things that depend on seasonal harvests have (temporarily, I'm sure) got a little bit cheaper - carrots for example. And basmati rice is a lot cheaper than it was a year ago. Tinned tomatoes have dropped back by 1-2p per tin to 31p and cartons of orange juice have eased back by about 1p to 61p having shot up at Christmas from 56p
I don't somehow think that's enough to account for the difference, though. And everything else is expensive and getting more so.It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0 -
Good morning! Welcome lilykins..this is a lovely friendly thread:D.
GQ hope hopefully the whole IB situation will be resolved sooner rather than later:cool: .
Sorry for being thick (again:o ) but is bd black dog? ..its the only thing I could think of and as my own personal bd is growling in my ear at the moment it struck a cord. It doesn't really seem to matter whats going on in my life sometimes , it just appears and lingers around for a while causing a general nuisance.
Anyway I am going into work early today as we are doing a special easter themed lunch and the kids always cheer me up! I would really love to work on the main school rather than just the kitchen but my volunteering hasnt happened due to an increase in my hours in the kitchen!
If anyone finds my motivation this week can they send it back please (it was last seen wandering off towards m'c donalds although I didnt give into temptation!:p)

bertiebots yes BD is 'Black Dog'. It doesn't seem to always relate to what's going on in life. Mine has just descended. Is barking loudly and needs chasing off. Despite the pills he never seems to really go away.GC Mar 13 £47.36/£1500

MIL is carer for FIL who has a horrible degenerative disease and is really struggling at the moment with looking after him and herself and OH get very upset at the whole situation- never really come to terms with his dads illness and also hates seeing his mum suffering too. I stand on the sidelines feeling useless and not knowing what to say or doPeople seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.

rachbc I am so sorry to hear about your fil. I don't know if it is possible for you but could you take on some of the more menial but necessary work for mil? If you can do something be specific about what sort of job you can do eg; housework, ironing etc. and explain that you want to help but don't know how.0

rachbc- I agree with grandma247, if you could maybe offer to do something specific rather than a generalised offer, or even an agreement to sit with FIL once a week for a couple of hours and MIL goes out and just has free time. The break would probably be very refreshing for her and give her a chance to take a breath as it were.
Am in alot of pain today - my back has flared up, probably not helped by the packing and box lifting that is in progress, had call yesterday to say valuation still not done as valuer cant get anyone to speak to him and arrange a time!!! Have rang agent this morning and she is on holiday (how nice for her) and not passed any messages on!! Hopefully a kick up the behind will move things along.
Going to get as much washing done as possible and get it on the line today as its due to rain.
OH has lost a key to a glass display cabinet (its really old) and I cant get the stuff out to pack - any ideas on lock picking??
Am going to start packing stuff from the kitchen that we dont use daily - but not really keen on using newspaper to wrap as it will make everything dirty and need washing other end - any suggestions?0
