:) Normal service is now resumed. Loins are girded and weebles returned to the upright position.

:) Yesterday was a bit pants and a thousand thank-yous for your supportive comments, I feel all warm on the inside. Softstuff, I'll hang fire on the doll, must keep my karma glowy and good, but am a firm believer in what goes around comes around, IYSWIM. He'll find that it all catches up with him sooner or later.......

:) I bought SuperGran the biggest bunch of red carnations I could find (her faves) and we went to the pub for a swift half. That woman is like a second mother to me sometimes. She makes life in the intermittant lunacy which is Shoebox Towers bearable. Every block of flats/ street/ village should have an SG or her equivalent.

:) A mate dropped in for an hour in the evening and I was feeling wiped out before she arrived and energised by the time she left, which is the hallmark of a good social call, IMO. Then I finished a book and went to bed with a hot bottle to quell the roiling gutache (not butterflies but a recurrance of IBS, something which can come back if I get too stressed).

:D So, have decided that as it may be a while longer before we see the back of the little !!!!!!, I cannot postpone my health drive until after he's gone. Had a virtuous tea of haddock and purple spouting broccoli (drizzled over with lemon juice) entirely made from whoopsied items, even the lemon. Have decided must try hard to get the sugar down as it's my go-to food when stressed and hence the weight gain etc. If I'm closer to my fighting weight I shall feel better. Plus I have to see my consultant at the end of the year and want to be a bit lighter or I shall getting a ticking off....:o

:) I'm also determined not to allow my slow progress of dejunking to stall and have thus posted 5 items onto my freecycle group before 6 am. There's over 20,000 members so hope to re-home those few bits and pieces to someone who needs them. I adore freecycle , think it's an absolutely brilliant thing.

(((Big hugs to everyone))) and I hope whatever you're up to today goes well.

  • Thanks so much for the advice re: bread-making, thats my task this weekend, first time ever so fingers crossed.
This thread is lovely and I have really enjoyed reading it, hope you dont mind me joining to share all your wonderful advice and tips- would you mind some questions as I am just starting out on my journey to be debt-free and old-style- I can honestly say that I already love my new lifestyle.

I have previously tried to tackle my mounting debts without any joy, in fact they continued to grow- it was because I didnt look at my life-style or make any changes. Tackling debts before left me miserable and more depressed.

However with the help of the forums, particularly old-style I have realised I no longer wanted the lifestyle I previously had, buying the latest gadget, trying to 'keep up' with friends etc. In fact it made me more depressed (I have suffered with depression for a few years and am on medication).

I feel as if a weight has been lifted. I have sold lots of 'stuff' like handbags, shoes, jewellery etc on e-bay, the proceeds of which I have paid off debts with. For the first time in years I feel truly happy and am always uplifted reading your posts.

I really am a beginner at old-style, but as I find out a tip I'm putting into practice- white vinegar and bicarb are now on my shopping list!!!!! Using half amount of washing powder and watering down washing up liquid saves me loads and I notice no difference, now onto making bread!!

I was so pleased to see some recommendations for books, I love reading but the usual chick-lit features the type of people and lifestyles I am now trying so hard to avoid- so I shall be ordering the Katherine Stewart books from the library (just joined).

Thanks for reading, sorry for waffling :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

    'Morning GreyQueen

Glad you're feeling a bit stronger/full of resolution today. I was a bit concerned - as we know what effect Idiot Boy is having...just seems so WRONG that someone else (and a total stranger at that...) can affect someone else's life for the worse so much....

Best to "get on with your life" as you say - rather than waiting to "come out of limbo" until I.B. has gone. As you say - "what goes around comes around" - and, by now, I'm old enough that I've seen this happen to various people by now - ie "Grrr...they're doing so and so" and then been told how life is for them some years later and thought "But that's an exact match for what they did back then....".

Anyways - let us know how today's "analysis" goes and if theres any reason for hope in that..

 Hello Lilykins, glad to have you up here and glad that you're getting a new lifestyle that you're loving. It make me very happy to hear or see that people are taking back their lives after dark times. You go, gal.

:D I've got my first avatar (beams with pride as had failed to upload one successfully before as borderline computer illiterate sometimes). Thought this one had failed too as the CP told me it had failed to upload and back I come to the thread and there it is! :D Feel like I'm a proper poster now I have an avatar....he he. :rotfl:

Speaking of books, has anyone read The Hovel in the Hills? There's a sister book to it called The Hovel in the Hills Cookbook (or summat similiar). I don't recall the author off the top of my head but I'm sure it's on one of the bookselling websites. Anyway, its written by this woman who left office life in 1970s Bristol and moved to a tumbledown cottage in the mountains of North Wales with her OH. They're lovely books; they were desperately hard-up and had to live very simply, very OS. I think they'd be right up our street.

Right, must get some breakfast. Today it will be porridge with last year's walnuts which were foraged from a suburban tree by one of my allotment neighbours who is very interesting and very alternative. Can't get much more OS than that.

I woke up in the middle of the night, thinking it was Seasalt . :o well not really, but I did remember when I was making my cuppa :rotfl: There are a few people who made an impression who have dropped by the wayside, I hope they are all OK and just too busy or occupied elsewhere to come in here.

Welcome Lilykins, your post put a big smile on my face this morning :)

Hi all. jackieg know the feeling about waking up in the middle of the night. Drives me insane - I keep a pad by the bed to write things down immediately or I never go back to sleep.

BD is back. Going to try really hard to not do my normal - sit reading trashy novels and drinking far too much. Anyone got any good OS suggestions? Its rather wet here so long walk is out (although I will have to take hound round the block shortly) Then have to go out to client who wants their accounts yesterday. Have a feeling that won't be fun.:(

DH didn't take the dinner I took out for him so my dinner has just been sorted. Got out 2 lots of DR mince to make bolognaise/cottage pie base for the freezer. But serious case of CBA.
